Rehearsals are underway for the Alliance's upcoming production of the classic 1960s drama, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, by Dale Wasserman and based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The Alliance's production, directed by Susan V. Booth (Blues for an Alabama Sky, The Geller Girls, August: Osage County), will feature some of Atlanta's most talented and well-respected actors in one of the largest ensembles of the 2015/16 season. The Alliance Theatre has announced the cast and creative team behind its upcoming production of the classic 1960s drama, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, by Dale Wasserman and based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The Alliance's production, directed by Susan V. Booth (Blues for an Alabama Sky, The Geller Girls, August: Osage County), will feature some of Atlanta's most talented and well-respected actors in one of the largest ensembles of the 2015/16 season.

Tickets for the Alliance Theatre's 2015/16 season are on sale today.  The 47th season includes five world premieres, stirring musicals, a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, a literary classic, and exceptional productions for youth and families.

The brutally funny Clybourne Park engages audiences in an uncensored journey, revealing the challenges and controversies in one house spanning 50 years of societal changes. As part ofAurora Theatre's 19th Season Peach State Federal Credit Union Signature Series, the darkly satirical Pulitzer Prize winning comedy makes its debut in metro-Atlanta October 2-26.

The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. revealed nominations for the 2013-2014 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening to theatre patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party, which rotates venues, was hosted this year by Actor's Express in the King Plow Arts Center of Atlanta. Guest announcers included performers Christy Baggett, Laura Cole, Danielle Deadwyler, and Tess Malis Kincaid.

Theatrical Outfit looks to the past, celebrates the present and embraces the future in its 38th season, spotlighting signature voices that will spark important conversations about class, education, faith, the stars and our places in the world. Our 2014-15 season features two Atlanta premieres, the debut on our stage of Decatur-bred, San Francisco-based Gunderson, the words of the award-winning South African sage Fugard and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Shanley.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), North Fulton's only professional theatre company, is ready to wow Atlanta area audiences with the much anticipated stage spectacle: The Great Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic 1920's Jazz Age epic has been adapted for the stage, and is the next installment in GET's record-setting season. Directed by founding company member Tess Malis Kincaid, the show runs today, February 27 through March 16, 2014, at the Theatre's home, the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest Street, Roswell, GA. The production is generously sponsored by The Bank of North Georgia.

Under the direction of David Esbjornson (Broadway's Driving Miss Daisy and Arena's Red Hot Patriot starring Kathleen Turner), this heart-warming comedy features many of the same actors who appeared in the world premiere of the play by True Colors TheatreCompany in July 2012.The play is adapted from William Rose's screenplay for the 1967 film of the same name starring Sidney Poitier, Katharine Hepburnand Spencer Tracy about a young white woman in the 1960s introducing her family to her charming, accomplished and African-American fiance. Malcolm-Jamal Warner makes his D.C.-area theater debut as Dr. John Prentice in Todd Kreidler's stage adaptation of GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER directed by David Esbjornson. Warner first rose to national prominence appearing as Theo in the television series THE COSBY SHOW. His work on the show garnered him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He is not only a seasoned actor, but an accomplished musician, director and producer. Under the direction of David Esbjornson (Broadway's Driving Miss Daisy and Arena's Red Hot Patriot starring Kathleen Turner), this heart-warming comedy features many of the same actors who appeared in the world premiere of the play by True Colors Theatre Company in July 2012. Kenny Leon, who collaborated with playwright Todd Kreidler on the world premiere and was previously announced to direct for Arena Stage, withdrew from the project due to an unforeseen conflict. Due to increased interest from the community, Horizon Theatre Company has added three Student & Senior Matinees and two evening performances to its run of Third Country by Suehyla El- Attar. In addition to the production, Horizon is partnering with more than 20 local organizations to bring this story to life through post-show discussions, opportunities to meet the people who inspired the play, special events, and a marketplace for refugee-made goods.

It is always dangerous to form an opinion of a show after seeing only its first preview. So I was a little apprehensive about writing a review after seeing the very first performance of the 2013 incarnation of Georgia Shakespeare's 'Metamorphoses.' Since the initial 2006 run, which was nominated for, and won, more Suzi Bass Awards than any non-musical in history, 'Metamorphoses' has held a special place in the Atlanta theatre consciousness; and I am happy to report that I now fully understand why their patrons were so excited for Georgia Shakespeare to bring back Mary Zimmerman's masterpiece based on the myths of Ovid.
