BWW Review: MOTHERS AND SONS from Pandora Productions - Calm And Specific Truth
by Keith Waits
- Nov 21, 2016
Playwright Terrance McNally has written some of the best plays and musicals of the last few decades, including Love, Valour, Compassion!and Ragtime. Most of his works have a piece of his life as a member of the LBGTQ community tied within the story. His Mothers and Sons, derived from his 10-minute play Andre's Mother, is firmly planted in themes that still haunt the community to this very day: the AIDS epidemic, equality, sorrow, acceptance, and happiness.
BWW Review: Scottsdale Musical Theater Company Presents KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN
by Herbert Paine
- May 27, 2016
With its array of accolades ~ novel, film, and musical ~ and the richness of its themes and content, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN is a treasure trove of possibility, to be mined deeply and imaginatively for its allusions to the mythology of the spider woman, cinema, and revolution. On these varied accounts, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company's current stab at the KISS falls short. The multi-talented Hector Coris directs this ambitious production, but I fear that limited resources have roadblocked him from realizing the production's full potential.

BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre's Compelling and Poignant Production of LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!
by Chris Gibson
- Jun 20, 2014
A lot happens over the course of the three acts that comprise playwright Terence McNally's work LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!. What's particularly interesting is that way that he balances the funny moments that occur with the more poignant ones. There's no doubt that it's an important gay play, and yet, what I got out of the experience had nothing to do with homosexuality, but with the sheer humanity on display here. Stray Dog Theatre has assembled a talented and brave cast (there's a considerable amount of nudity) that really brings each of these characters to life in meaningful ways. This is powerful and compelling theatre that demands to be seen.
