Spirit Award Winner and Drama Desk Award Winner Doreen Montalvo (IN THE HEIGHTS, GIANT, FLASHDANCE) will be celebrating her birthday by hosting Cabaret Cares 9, a benefit for 'Help Is On The Way Today,' a not-for-profit organization assisting children and teens living with HIV/AIDS in both New York City and Africa. The Monday, Nov. 24 show will feature performances by her talented friends, whom she calls 'The Ladies Who Rock.'

The multi-faceted musical director/arranger/accompanist/composer Alex Rybeck flexed his talent this past Sunday night, sharing songs of every ilk with an appreciatively packed 54 Below. 'Tonight is proof positive that dreams come true, just not how you imagine. I always thought you had to have a hit song to headline an evening here…' Delivered by many of his celebrated singer friends he's worked with often (including the Callaway Sisters, Liz and Ann), entertaining selections from the writer's canon included bossa nova, ballads, musical theater numbers, pop, comic turns, seasonal songs, and 'Serenade,' a haunting piece of music the author composed for his mother which seemed like portraiture: strong, proud, thoughtful, warm, light.

Danielle Hope, who won BBC1's 'Over The Rainbow', will star as Catherine Hiatt in Jason Robert Brown's award-winning musical, The Last Five Years at Greenwich Theatre, London and The Warren Theatre, Brighton this May. She will appear alongside West End star Jon Robyns, whose credits include Spamalot, Les Miserables and Avenue Q.

The local arts community had a chance to meet, greet and enjoy the diverse, colorful and often poignant works of fellow artists at an Awards Reception for “Mercer County Artists 2014” on March 13. The exhibit is on display at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road in West Windsor, through April 3. It features 96 works by 75 artists and includes oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings, as well as mixed media collages and sculptures in clay, found art, and recycled materials. The star-studded list of Broadway stars and A-list cabaret performers keeps growing for the 2013 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards Show, to be staged at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street near Astor Place in Manhattan) on February 23 from 6:30-8:40 pm. Added to a stellar group that includes Ann Hampton Callaway, Liz Callaway, Terri White, Jane Monheit and Jason Robert Brown, are Tony Award Winner (now also a cabaret performer) Alice Ripley (photo left), who will perform representing Sondheim Unplugged at 54 Below, which won the BWW Cabaret Award for Best Variety Show or Recurring Series. It's finally official. After more than a month of voting--following a month-long nomination process--approximately 7,000 voters have selected the winners of the BroadwayWorld.com New York Cabaret Awards for 2013. Self-proclaimed cabaret “Diva” Ann Hampton Callaway and her Broadway baby sister Liz Callaway are either the principals or connected to four awards out of this year's 18 categories, including “Best Duo or Group Show” for the return after 18 years of their critically-acclaimed sister act Sibling Revelry, and “Best Tribute Show” to Ann for her exciting homage to Sarah Vaughan, From Sassy to Divine. Ann's musicians for her Sarah Vaughan show at Dizzy's Jazz Club at Lincoln Center took the Award for “Best Band or Orchestra,” and Alex Rybeck received the most votes as “Best Musical Director” for Sibling Revelry, which was staged in August at 54 Below.
