Noel Coward's Classic Comedy 'Private Lives' At Palm Beach Dramaworks

The four-character play made its Broadway premiere in 1931, starring Noel Coward himself. It has a long history with six Broadway revivals, most recently in 2002, and a long list of well known cast members including Laurence Olivier, Tallulah Bankhead, Maggie Smith, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Alan Rickman.

A rocking new Shorts 4 Kids line-up for families with tunes penned by Grammy Award Winner Cyndi Lauper and breakout artist Lisa Loeb ('Stay: I Missed You') along with a mix of fast and funny plays for families and a new 'Create-a-Short' Contest featuring the work of young artists; the company's naughty, bawdy late night undershorts Series featuring sinful comedies by the nation's hottest talents along with music penned by Tony-nominated writer Michael John LaChiusa ('The Wild Party'); and its celebrated Signature Shorts Series, which returns to its strong comedic roots with previous festival favorites Christopher Durang ('For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls' and 'The Hardy Boys and the Mystery of Where Babies Come From') and South Florida's prolific Michael McKeever ('Splat!' and 'Laura Keene Goes On.') Signature Shorts will also feature a dark comedy by Harold Pinter.

Although written in 1952, 'The Chairs' did not run on Broadway until 1998, earning several Tony Award nominations. One of Ionesco's most popular plays, 'The Chairs' was first performed in Paris. It was soon praised for its unique style and became a defining example of Theatre of the Absurd - a literary philosophy that emphasized the absurdity and futility of the human condition.

This year's red carpet season got off to a shaky start as a strike derailed the glamour in Los Angeles and New York. South Florida shows the nation how to get it right as the 32nd Annual Carbonell Award nominations were released today along with details of the awards ceremony, which is one of the most anticipated events of the theatrical season. The Carbonell Awards, sponsored by The Law Firm of Broad & Cassel, P.A., will take place Monday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
