The Dance Gallery Festival will return for their 11th annual New York performance showcase, Friday, November 3 at Gelsey Kirkland Arts Center, 29 Jay St. in Brooklyn, and on November 4-5 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, 405 W 55th Street, NYC with twenty-five artists in a weekend of groundbreaking work performed in three distinct and separate programs.

Good news: we are finally seeing same sex couples in dance. A rarity is now becoming something of a mainstream occurrence as we move into a new realm of sexuality actually being presented on stage. For gay men, and I include myself, we have waited a long time to see this, free from any kind of misrepresentation that smacks of hypocrisy, insensitivity or comic put-downs. We can now examine ourselves in the art of Terpsichore -not only on small stages, but in the repertory of New York City Ballet, the company where women were on pedestals and men their adoring cavaliers.

Eglevsky Ballet Announces Summer Intensive Classes

In 2015, the Eglevsky Ballet engaged Maurice B. Curry as its new Executive Artistic Director. In two years, the Eglevsky Ballet has doubled the enrollment in its dance academy and now boasts ten educators and a resident artist. A full slate of year-round ballet classes and workshops are offered for students ranging from three years of age to 20 years old.

The Ailey Extension to Offer Spring Workshops

This spring, The Ailey Extension offers unique opportunities for students to blossom. On Tuesday, March 22nd, Ailey II Artistic Director Troy Powell will lead a special Horton Workshop; on Thursday, March 24th, Ailey dancer Sean Aaron Carmon steps from the stage to the studio to teach a Contemporary Jazz Workshop; and World Dance Celebration workshops in seven different techniques kick off the week of April 17th.
