The Public Theater announced the line-up today for the 2015 FREE Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 53-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. Since 1962, over five million people have enjoyed more than 150 free productions of Shakespeare and other classical works and musicals at the Delacorte Theater. Conceived by founder Joe Papp as a way to make great theater accessible to all, The Public's free Shakespeare in the Park continues to be the bedrock of the Company's mission to increase access and engage the community. This summer, free Shakespeare in the Park will feature Shakespeare's late romances with THE TEMPEST (May 27-July 5), directed by Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, and CYMBELINE (July 27-August 23), directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center has announced its SPRING 2014 season of public programs. The season includes the Center's inaugural PEN World Voices International Play Festival, featuring 9 free readings of plays from around the globe, including HAITI, JAPAN, TUNISIA, CHILE, POLAND, AUSTRALIA, SINGAPORE, AUSTRIA and INDIA. The season also features 11 free public programs throughout the spring, featuring contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

59E59 Theaters welcomes Douglas Denoff, The Culture Project and WBTW Productions, LLC with the New York premiere of WITNESSED BY THE WORLD, written by Ronnie Cohen and Jane Beale and directed by Karen Carpenter. WITNESSED BY THE WORLD begins performances on Friday, November 8 for a limited engagement through Sunday, December 15. Press opening is Wednesday, November 20 at 7:15 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:15 PM; Friday at 8:15 PM; Saturday at 2:15 PM & 8:15 PM; and Sunday at 3:15 PM. Please note, there is no matinee performance on Saturday, November 9 and no performance on Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving). The company releases an official statement on their Facebook page, saying: 'We at Mabou Mines are profoundly saddened to share the news of the passing of our Co-Founder & Co-Artistic Director, Ruth Maleczech. Ruth died at home, in her sleep, with her children Clove & Lute at her side. Ruth was a living legend. The loss to the theater community is immeasurable. To those of us who knew and loved her the loss is devastating.'

Deirdre Kinahan's 'Bogboy' won three major awards, including best production, at the closing ceremonies of the fourth annual 1st Irish Festival, on Monday October 3, at Papillon Bistro & Bar, 22 East 54th Street. The haunting drama about a heroin addict's unlikely friendship with a reclusive farmer also scored for Sorcha Fox who won best actress and Jo Mangan who was named best director. But it was 'A Night with George,' a comedy from Belfast, that proved to be the audience darling, snapping up the award for Best Play in online voting. The award for Best Play was presented by the actor Gabriel Byrne, Ireland's cultural ambassador.
