2015 Hunting Art Prize Announces Finalists

HOUSTON, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ Hunting PLC announced that 110 artists have been selected to move on to the final round of judging in the 2015 Hunting Art Prize in which participants vie for a $50,000 award. The competition, which is celebrating its 35 th anniversary, is the largest prize in the category of painting and drawing available in North America.

More than 160 vocalists, four soloists and a large orchestra will join together to perform Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, the dramatic funeral mass first performed in Italy in 1874, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8 in Ohio State's Mershon Auditorium. Marshall Haddock, Ohio State's director of orchestral studies, will conduct the performance.

This legendary piece of the 1692 Salem witch trials will be presented on October 30th and runs Thursday through Saturday, 7:30 pm at ART in the Box, 16 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo NY 14219. All showtimes are 7:30 pm with ticket prices ranging from $25 general admission ($20 online), $18 student/military veteran ($15 online).

San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Sonoma State University's Green Music Center today announced The National Brass Ensemble Project, a partnership formed to present a newly created group, the National Brass Ensemble, in a week-long residency taking place June 9 - 14, 2014 in Rohnert Park and San Rafael, California. The Ensemble, a singular collection of musicians from across the United States, features 24 leading brass players and two percussionists from the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland, Detroit Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia and San Francisco Symphony orchestras.

Custom Made Theatre caps its 15th season with Arthur Miller's The Crucible, directed by Stuart Bousel. The Crucible is arguably The Great American Play, a classic story of individuals confronting the corruption within their society and standing up for their convictions under even the direst of circumstances. Custom Made has assembled a cast of 17 to portray the frightening times of 17th Century Salem, Massachusetts. AOP (American Opera Projects), and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture will co-present an evening of scenes from Nkeiru Okoye's folk opera Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom that tells of how a young girl born in slavery, becomes Harriet Tubman, the legendary Underground Railroad conductor. The musical excerpts will be followed by an artist Q&A moderated by WQXR's Terrance McKnight. The concert will be presented today, December 9, 2013 at 6:30 PM at the Langston Hughes Auditorium: 515 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York, NY 10037-1801.

For the first time in over a decade, Ohio State's School of Music presents Mozart'sRequiem Mass in D Minor at 3 pm today, March 3 in Mershon Auditorium, 1871 North High St. Conducted by Robert Ward, director of choral activities, the powerful piece will bring together Ohio State's Chorale, Symphonic Choir, Men's Glee Club, Women's Glee Club, and Symphony Orchestra. In all, the performance will feature 252 vocalists and 35 orchestra members.
