Ars Nova has announced additional details for The Ars Nova Forever Telethon, a 24 hour livestream featuring over 100 artists celebrating Ars Nova's past and present while raising funds to propel the organization into its future. The online event will begin at 6pm EDT on June 12 and run non-stop until 6pm EDT on June 13.

Last night, The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues celebrated its landmark tenth edition. In the biggest round yet, 28 actors were paired with the industry's top writers, who created new pieces just for them in only 24 hours. From 6 PM on, the new monologues were published, one every 15 minutes.

On June 7 at 7:30pm EDT, Works & Process at the Guggenheim will present the premiere of Storm as part of the Works & Process Artists (WPA) Virtual Commission Series.

Studio will award grants to 10 artists-playwrights, directors, and multidisciplinary creators-investing in its future while supporting theatre-makers and expanding the idea of what it means to be a generative artist. For the first time, Studio R&D commissions are being awarded to support the creation of audio plays, as Studio explores alternate modes of theatrical storytelling in response to the present moment.

Leah Ryan's Fund For Emerging Women Writers celebrates ten years of awarding it's prize to women playwrights with 10 X 10: An Evening of 10 Minute Plays Celebrating Ten Years of Winners. The gala event will take place at Cherry Lane Theatre on March 30 and will feature world premiere short plays from past recipients Megan Mostyn Brown, Genia Femia, Jiehae Park, and Eliana Pipes. A pre-show cocktail reception begins at 6:00pm, followed by the main performance at 7:00pm and an afterparty at Cowgirl. The evening will be under the direction of Daniella Topol. Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) has announced the lineup for the 2020 Ted Snowdon Reading Series.

GOODNIGHT NOBODY, a new play by Rachel Bonds, now running at McCarter, is set in a farmhouse in upstate New York. The house belongs to Mara, played by Emmy-Award winner Dana Delany. Much of the plot revolves around her adult son and his friends, whose lives and yearnings are woven into her own; to one she is a mother, but to the others she is their lover, or potential mentor in art or parenting.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) has announced the ninth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. The Reading Series will feature new works by Benjamin Benne, Majkin Holmquist, Shayan Lotfi, Nick Mecikalski and Harrison David Rivers.

Musical theater returns to McCarter Theatre Center with the 2021 arrival of Bhangin' It, a large-scale uplifting new musical that will premiere in June 2021, following a production at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

Updated September 2023: Finding the perfect monologue for an audition can be a daunting task. After all, it's not like you can listen to potential options via cast recordings - there's a little more digging to be done. But don't worry - searching for monologues is not nearly as hard as it seems, and it can actually be a very fun and educational process! By the end of your search, you'll not only have some killer audition material, but you'll be a much more well-read theatre student! Here are some of my tips to guide you through the process. 

McCarter Theatre Center announces a generous gift of $500,000 from McCarter supporter and arts philanthropist Betty Wold Johnson, in honor of Emily Mann's thirty years as Artistic Director and Resident Playwright. The gift will be used to support the ongoing artistic excellence for which McCarter became known during Mann's tenure.

At its first meeting of the 2019/2020 season, McCarter Theatre Center welcomed seven new members to its Board of Trustees. These leading community volunteers join an existing team of trustees who are outstanding arts advocates. All support McCarter's mission of creating world-class theater and presenting the finest performing artists for the engagement, education, and entertainment of the community.
