Earlier than expected the future chief conductor now leads his first DNO-production Lorenzo Viotti will conduct the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in the DNO production of Pagliacci/Cavalleria rusticana. The 29-year-old conductor, who has dual Swiss-French citizenship, will take over the baton as new chief conductor of Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra as of the 2021a?"2022 season. Earlier than expected he now leads his first opera production at Dutch National Opera.

Magnetic Opera Festival 2019 Comes to Elba Island

From 7 to 22 July, Elba Island will host the fifth edition of the Magnetic Opera Festival that will take place in Capoliveri, the main town of the South-Eastern side of the Tuscan island. The summer musical event organised by the local cultural association Maggyart combines opera and ballet performances at two venues: the historical, magnetite mine of Ginevro (Miniera di Ginevro) and the scenic main square of Capoliveri - Piazza Matteotti.

MCS Music Director Jason Tramm will lead the distinguished Morris Choral Society and guest soloist Christina Major in a concert of unforgettable music written by the greatest composers of Opera and Broadway.  Due to a conflict, Christina Major will replace Susanne Burgess in the program.

San Francisco Opera Opens 96th Weekend With Celebratory Weekend

San Francisco Opera opened its 2018-19 Season with a weekend of celebratory events and performances beginning Friday, September 7 with two galas-Opera Ball 2018: ¡Viva La Noche! and the BRAVO! CLUB Opening Night Gala-and a performance of the famous operatic double bill of Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (or Cav/Pag). Opening weekend continued Saturday, September 8 with the highly-anticipated premiere of Gaetano Donizetti's bel canto drama Roberto Devereux and on Sunday, September 9, nearly 15,000 people flocked to Golden Gate Park for the annual San Francisco Chronicle Presents Opera in the Park concert on a beautiful, 71-degree day with blue skies.
