by Reynard Loki - Jan 19, 2009

Theater for the New City Presents Laugh, Damn Ya, Laugh! Written by Walter Corwin, Directed by Jonathan Weber, from February 5 to February 21, 2009. Playing off Greek tragedy, Laugh, Damn Ya, Laugh! is a comedy about the difficulty of finding humor in today's world. Sam, the head producer of comedy for a major network, is responsible for lightening the despair of the masses. All his attempts fail until his secretary invites an unknown actor from off-off Broadway, whose skits touch Sam and his co-workers. But they are unable to translate their new sensitivity into humor. Wiser, but at his wit's end, Sam, with the prodding of his wife, asks for the impossible. The Gods ? New York's own ? respond! The cast features Tony King as Sam, Danielle Suder as his Wife, Jessica Day as Sybil, his Associate Producer, Samantha Mason as his Secretary, and Oliver Thrun as Jack, the Actor. Walter Corwin has had many plays presented at the Theater for the New City and is on the staff. His play Gum was performed at the PublicTheater. His works have been performed in the La MaMa Experiments Series.
