BWW Review: Broadway San Jose's THE LION KING is Magical!
by Linda Hodges and Nick Hodges
- Sep 15, 2015
Broadway San Jose at the Center for the Performing Arts plays host to Disney's THE LION KING now through October 4 only. That's the most important thing you need to know because if you're one for keeping a bucket list of must-see things to do and see before you 'exit stage left,' then this show is surely one for the list. Directed into being by Julie Taymor, who infuses her creation with rich cultural beauty, soul-stirring African harmonies and life-sized, almost living, breathing animal puppets, THE LION KING will capture your heart as it surrounds your senses with laughter, magic and wonder.

by Caroline Sposto

It's only fair to start with a confession: I have purposely avoided seeing 'The Lion King' on stage for seventeen years. You see, when the Disney movie came out (1994) I was raising two small children. (If you need further explanation, ask any parent shepherding tots through Frozen Mania.)

Poetry. A show that inspires beyond one's capabilities of speech is described as poetic genius. Disney's Broadway hit musical The Lion King is nothing short of pure poetry.
Frankly a loss for words is what this critic is suffering from.
Julie Taymor's most renowned claim to fame is a show that has just recently become the highest grossing Broadway production of all time - and for good reason.

BWW Reviews: THE LION KING is Wholesome Family Entertainment
by Alan Henry
- May 4, 2014
If you get concerned taking your children to the theatre because of all the recent productions featuring violence, swearing, and sexed-up drag queens - you should know The Lion King is fantastic, wholesome family entertainment with none of those (okay, there is one moment in drag, but I promise it's harmless)!
