The Allentown Arts Commission and the City of Allentown will celebrate the extraordinary impact of the arts on Allentown and the broader Lehigh Valley community when it presents the 27th Annual Allentown Arts Ovation Awards in a revitalized and re-imagined ceremony, Thursday, May 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. After moving to the Palace Center on the east side of Allentown for the last several years, the ceremony returns to Allentown's City Center to the Renaissance Hotel at PPL Center - which in itself has become an epicenter for the revitalized downtown.

Civic Theatre will launch its 2014-2015 main stage season with the Lehigh Valley premiere of Mel Brooks' monstrously funny musical, 'Young Frankenstein' on Friday, October 10 with performances through Sunday, October 26. Civic's Artistic Director William Sanders directs. Gwen Swanson-Vigorito and Sanders serve as co-choreographers. Steve Reisteter serves as musical director. All performances will be held at Civic's historic Nineteenth Street Theatre at 527 N. 19th Street in Allentown. Special discounted tickets are available for performances on opening weekend. Civic Theatre will present the finale to its 2013-2014 main stage season with the irreverent, laugh-out-loud Tony-winning musical, "Urinetown" opening on Friday, May 2 with performances through Sunday, May 18. Civic's Artistic Director William Sanders directs and choreographs this musical that won 2002 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score and has been hailed as one of the most original musicals of the last 20 years. The 2009 FREDDY Awards Recipients Announced At The State Theatre 5/21

On May 22, 2003, the State Theatre Center for the Arts made history by becoming the first performing arts center in the country to produce, along with broadcast partner WFMZ Channel 69, a three-hour, live television show to recognize and reward outstanding achievement in local high school musical theater. It was an extraordinary triumph for creator and executive producer Shelley Brown and her dedicated staff. Regional high schools from the Lehigh, Northampton and Warren County, NJ region now had their own TONY®'s - The FREDDY© Awards.
