The 8th Annual Key West Film Festival announces its official 2019 lineup including major fall films from Noah Baumbach and Destin Daniel Cretton. More than 115 films and V/R pieces will be shown during the 5-day festival, which runs November 20-24. Nearly half of the feature films at the festival will be Florida festival premieres.

 HBO Max has picked up gen:LOCK for a second season following its success as Rooster Teeth's newest animated series. Starring Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther), the half-hour animated series focuses on a near-future dystopia undergoing a new, technologically driven world war. gen:LOCK originally premiered on Rooster Teeth. Season 2 of gen:LOCK will premiere on HBO Max and 90 days later will be available on Rooster Teeth for FIRST members.

The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation's premier member organization of independent storytellers, announced today the nominees for the 29th Annual IFP Gotham Awards. Ten competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series. In addition to the competitive awards, Gotham Tributes will be given to actors Laura Dern and Sam Rockwell, director Ava DuVernay, and the Gotham Industry Tribute to Glen Basner.

Just Mercy, from Warner Bros. is set to have an American premiere screening as the opening night film for the fifth annual Asian World Film Festival in Culver City at the Arclight Cinemas on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. The screening will follow a red carpet opening night ceremony.

Olney Theatre Center and 1st Stage's co-production of The Royale by Marco Ramirez and directed by Paige Hernandez begins its delayed run on Wednesday, October 2 at 1:45pm. The original first week of performances were cancelled when the actor had to withdraw for medical reasons just prior to the first scheduled performance.

AMC today announced that it has greenlit two new series, thriller and courtroom drama “61st Street,” from BAFTA-winner Peter Moffat (“Criminal Justice” “The Night Of” “Your Honor”) and executive produced by Michael B. Jordan and Alana Mayo of Outlier Society (“Just Mercy” “David Makes Man”), and “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” from creator Valerie Armstrong (“Lodge 49,” “SEAL Team”) and executive producers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack through Le Train Train (“Claws,” “A to Z”) as well as Craig DiGregorio. Both series are produced by AMC Studios.

Peter Brook/NY today announces that Tarell Alvin McCraney will interview Peter Brook following the Thursday, September 26, performance of Why?, written and directed by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne; featuring Hayley Carmichael, Kathryn Hunter, and Marcello Magni; and presented by Theatre for a New Audience. The 32nd Annual Virginia Film Festival will feature a deep and diverse program of more than 150 films, including some of the hottest titles on the festival circuit today, and an array of special guests from throughout the industry, and from across the globe. Fantasy is still a hot commodity, and movie studios continue to look for the next big thing by scouting new book releases and scooping up film rights, often before a book officially hits the shelves. Rena Barron's debut novel KINGDOM OF SOULS only launched this past week on September 19th, but news just broke that actor and producer Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed, Friday Night Lights) just acquired the trilogy through his production company Outlier Society, helmed by Warner Bros. Jordan is set to produce the movie alongside Pouya Shahbazian and Alana Mayo, with Misan Sagay adapting the novel into a screenplay.

Deadline reports that Michael B. Jordan's production company Outlier Society has acquired the rights to 'Kingdom of Souls,' which will be based on a fantasy novel by Rena Barron.

The sequel to the hit film Black Panther is set to release on May 6, 2022, according to Variety. The news was revealed at D23 expo today, August 24.
