Tennessee Rep Presents DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, 10/13-11/3

Tennessee Repertory Theatre will present Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, adapted by Jeffrey Hatched, based on the classic novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde runs October 13 - November 3 at TPAC's Johnson Theater (with preview performances October 11 - 12).

Steven Dietz's Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure has been performed all over the country, but when Nashville Children's Theatre presents it as the opening production of its 81st season, it will be the first time the play has been presented by a theatre for young audiences. And in another noteworthy first, the production marks the first time that Nashville Children's Theatre has mounted a show of some two hours in length.

Eight individuals, whose names attest to the depth and breadth of live theatrical performance in Nashville, have been named as members of the 2012 Class of First Night Honorees and will be feted with a special tribute concert on Sunday, September 2, at Belmont University's Troutt Theatre.

Barter Theatre has announced the winners of the 2012 Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights (AFPP) that was held July 6-July 13. The top honor goes to "Hanging Mary' by Matthew Carlton and will be featured as the 2013 mini-production at Barter Theatre next summer. Based on the true events that led to an elephant being hanged for murder in Erwin, Tennessee, in1916, 'Hanging Mary' explores issues of justice, prejudice and fear that led to this absurdly tragic and dark chapter in East Tennessee history.

Directed by the company's producing artistic director Vali Forrister, Becky's New Car is a perfect choice for Actors Bridge, providing a showcase for a group of talented actors so charming and so engaging that you might find yourself falling a little bit in love with the whole lot. In fact, I'd probably drink the bathwater of the entire cast, so completely believable are they in this sharply written, inventively staged production. Take my advice: You best go look under the hood of Becky's New Car before its run ends on August 7.
