BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at The Majestic Theatre San Antonio
by Ashley Corbaley - Mar 28, 2019

'Miracle of Miracles!' Since its Broadway debut in 1964, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has touched the hearts of millions with its story of faith, tradition, and family that has transcended generations. The show centers on Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman as he tries to marry off his eldest daughters.  With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein, this nine-time Tony Award-winning show features memorable songs such as  'Matchmaker, Matchmaker,' 'To Life,' and 'Sunrise, Sunset.' You might be familiar with the songs and story but you haven't fully experienced it until you see the National Tour of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, now playing at the Majestic Theatre of San Antonio.

BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at The Orpheum
by Chris Miritello - Mar 21, 2019

The mamas and the papas (and sons and daughters) debuted at Memphis's Orpheum on Tuesday night, but this was no case of California dreamin'. Rather, it was the national touring company of Fiddler on the Roof that descended on the Bluff City to serve up a hefty helping of tradition. Fiddler on the Roof is, of course, one of the classics, with a storied history that includes its having enjoyed the first musical run to pass the 3,000 performance mark, and a near decade long reign as the longest running Broadway musical. Audiences may also remember the 1971 film adaptation starring Topol as the show's central patriarch Tevye, which garnered three Academy Awards. Set in a Jewish settlement in Russia in 1905, the show would not be expected to bear any shade of modernity. That being said, the production's youthful and endearing cast, excellent choreography and innovative lighting design, combined with its timeless themes of family, community and connectedness to one's ancestral history certainly make it resonate with inter-generational audiences of all faiths.

BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF National Tour at Durham Performing Arts Center
by Jeffrey Kare - Jan 9, 2019

Based on Sholem Aleichem's series of short stories about Tevye the Dairyman, Fiddler on the Roof centers on Tevye, a poor milkman who lives in pre-revolutionary Russia with his wife and five daughters. Among the traditions in their little village of Anatevka, the matchmaker arranges a match between a boy and a girl, and the father must approve the arranged marriage. However, Tevye must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three eldest daughters who wish to marry for love and outside influences of the Tsar who intrude upon his village.

BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Cadillac Palace Theatre
by Emily McClanathan - Dec 26, 2018

In his Tony-nominated revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, now playing on tour at Broadway in Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre, director Bartlett Sher delivers a fresh and strikingly relevant vision of this 1960s classic. While Sher carefully honors the cultural and historical setting, a rural Jewish community in early twentieth century Russia, this production achieves a timelessness that speaks to the plights of marginalized people throughout history.

BWW Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Rochester Broadway Theatre League
by Colin Fleming-Stumpf - Dec 13, 2018

Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most iconic and memorable shows in the musical theatre cannon, having originated on Broadway over 50 years ago and seen scores of revivals, and a feature length film, in the intervening years. The production currently playing at Rochester's Auditorium Theatre until December 16th is a rich and powerful experience, unlike any production of Fiddler you've ever seen before.

by Cybele Pomeroy - Nov 15, 2018

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a wonderful show about joy amidst harsh circumstances, the importance of family and community. It's also about Tradition! It's nice to see familiar things updated but not bastardized. The cast is consistently wonderful with harmonious singing and excellent dancing throughout the show, with visually striking staging of sequences that don't technically qualify as dances.
