For the first time in what seems like forever, there is going to be a legitimate late-night war on network television. It won't be fueled by animosity between hosts (as evidenced by their locker room bromance), but instead by vastly different perspectives on what the job is and what it could be. Those who were worried that Stephen Colbert would just be adding another lilywhite male voice to the seemingly homogenous late-night landscape still have justifiable concerns, but at least this lilywhite male voice will be slightly more thoughtful and inquisitive than the others.
Neil Patrick Harris Confirms He Was Initially Offered 'LATE SHOW' Gig

Neil Patrick Harris, once rumored to be a contender to replace David Letterman on THE LATE SHOW, confirmed today to Howard Stern that he was, in fact, initially approached to succeed the late-night host. Harris said CBS' Les Moonves and Nina Tassler also offered him Craig Ferguson's spot in the later show, though he eventually turned both gigs down.
Larry King Becomes Dean of Friars Club

The Friars Club today announced that Peabody Award-winning radio, television and internet show host Larry King has been appointed as the new Dean of the Friars Club, taking over for Freddie Roman. As Dean, which is also known as the President of the club, King will work closely with the Friars Club's Abbot Jerry Lewis, overseeing the Board of Governors on all matters surrounding the “Monastery,” including participating in the famous Roasts and dinners, as well as other events happening in and around the Club, for the next two years. The appointment will be made official at a special ceremony at the Friars Club.

Legendary actor/comedian Don Rickles will be honored with the Friars Club's Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy at a star-studded awards gala which will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Among those scheduled to participate in honoring Rickles through their songs or words will be Bob Costas, Tony Danza, Kathy Griffin, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Bob Newhart, Regis Philbin, Joan Rivers and Bob Saget.
