West End's MATILDA to Open on Broadway Spring 2013?

The show transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that the show is now aiming to open on Broadway in the Spring of 2013, produced by the RSC themselves and overseen by Andre Ptaszynski, who formerly ran Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Really Useful Group.

Following a sensational sell-out season at The Courtyard Theatre, the RSC's production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim, and according to Whatsonstage, plans will soon be made concerning bringing the new musical to Broadway. RSC artistic director Michael Boyd announced at a press conference last week that the Mailda team will travel to New York at the end of January to discuss future Broadway plans. Additionally the RSC will 'retain "absolute control" over the production.'

Following a triumphant opening at the Cambridge Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical has extended its booking period. Tickets are now on sale up to, and including, 21 October 2012. The new stage musical, which has captured the imagination of young and old alike, transferred to the West End on Tuesday 25 October 2011.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical, which is slated to transfer to London's Cambridge Theatre on October 18 of this year, is lined up for Broadway in 2013. Riedel explains that Matilda director Matthew Wachus is hoping to bring the show in then so that he can focus on moving his other West End property, Ghost, to Broadway next season.
