Rehearsals have begun for the hit MCC Theater production of "School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play" by Jocelyn Bioh. Directed by Rebecca Taichman, the production will begin previews September 2, open September 8 and continue through September 30, 2018, at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Rehearsals began in New York City for the upcoming return engagement of Jocelyn Bioh's acclaimed award-winning comedy "School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play", directed by Rebecca Taichman, which will be presented by MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher Street , October 16th through October 25th. Official opening night is set for October 22nd.

SCHOOL GIRLS: OR, THE AFRICAN MEAN GIRLS PLAY Will Receive Encore Run Off Broadway This Fall

MCC THEATER just today announced the full cast and creative team for the return of the critically acclaimed, sold out, extended, award-winning play School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play, written by 2017-18 Tow Playwright-in-Residence Jocelyn Bioh, and directed by Tony® Winner Rebecca Taichman. The encore production will be performed at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street) from October 16th through November 25th. Opening night is set for October 22nd. Prior to the return, Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles will present the MCC production at the CTG Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City from September 2nd through September 30th.

Broadway is currently celebrating the 50th year of Hello Dolly and the Folksbiene is mounting Fiddler On The Roof (in Yiddish) for its same Golden Anniversary. TheBerkshire Theatre Group has an exciting production of HAIR also celebrating its Broadway Opening in 1968 on it's Unicorn Stage. BroadwayWorld was there for the opening night curtain call. GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS has announced it will record the new musical Miss You Like Hell, the New York premiere production from The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham), for an original cast recording to be released later this year. With book and lyrics by Quiara Alegria Hudes, music and lyrics by Erin McKeown, and choreography by Danny Mefford, the new musical was directed by Public Theater Resident Director and Founder of Public Works Lear deBessonet, and stars Daphne Rubin-Vega and Gizel Jimenez. The recording is being produced by Erin McKeown and Kurt Deutsch.

The current American president is never mentioned in bookwriter/lyricist Quiara Alegria Hudes and composer/lyricist Erin McKeown's lovely and touching chamber musical MISS YOU LIKE HELL.  But even though the piece has been in development well before anyone thought of the former reality TV star as a serious candidate, his presence is well-felt in their story of an undocumented Mexican-American mom who is facing deportation while trying to rebuild her relationship with her citizen daughter.

We rallied an incredible roster of some of Broadway's most fantastic voices to speak and sing on the subject. The result was moving and hilarious and powerful and poignant. And the singing? Well, let's just say y'all aren't ready for this!
