Broadway Sessions welcomes HARTT school and Calamity Jane, 3/22 BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano.

Newton native Kelly McIntyre evokes Joplin with her body language, a rapid verbal patter, and a powerhouse voice that can go from zero to sixty. The show is at its best when focusing on the musical numbers, a generous offering from the singer's canon of hits.

The Boch Center announced today that it is working with local archivist David Bieber to celebrate what would have been Janis Joplin's 75th birthday during its presentation of A Night With Janis Joplin at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre January 19-20, 2018. The birthday celebration will display historic pieces from Bieber's archive, bringing to life the legacy of rock and roll icon Janis Joplin.

If you're looking to get a definitive Janis Joplin biography/musical (in the vein of the Carole King musical BEAUTIFUL), then you may be disappointed with A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, the short-lived 2013 Broadway musical. More akin to a tribute concert rather than actual musical theater, a new regional production of the show continues at the Laguna Playhouse through September 10. But wait… don't dismiss the show quite so fast.
