The Helpmann Awards are the premier celebration of Australia's vibrant live performance industry. The Awards recognise distinguished achievement and excellence in Australia's live performance sectors including musicals, contemporary music, comedy, opera and classical music, theatre, ballet, dance and physical theatre, presentations for children and young people, regional touring and cabaret.

The highly acclaimed Australian musical produced by Global Creatures, Muriel's Wedding The Musical, commences in Sydney in June at the Lyric Theatre with previews from June 28 and opening night on July 4.

Live Performance Australia (LPA) today announced the details of the 2019 Helpmann Awards which, for the very first time in Melbourne, will see the stars of the Australian live theatre and entertainment industry come together for two remarkable nights. Forty-two prestigious Helpmann Awards will be presented at the Victorian home of the performing arts, Arts Centre Melbourne.

Frontier Comedy has announced an unprecedented Australian theatre tour for stand-up comedian, singer, writer and broadcaster Em Rusciano. With a phenomenal career trajectory that has launched her from finalist and audience favourite in a hugely popular national talent show to hosting brekky radio and selling out shows around Australia, the glitter cyclone embodied by Em Rusciano continues to take no prisoners and tell no lies. The Rage and Rainbows Tour will see Em leave a trail of sequins, singalongs and sore bellies from Hobart to Perth and everywhere in between this July and August.

With all ten acts now confirmed for the first ever national selection show Eurovision - Australia Decides, SBS and production partner Blink TV have announced two more songs. Released today, Kate Miller-Heidke co-wrote Zero Gravity with her partner and music collaborator Keir Nuttall, while Australian rock legend Ella Hooper's song Data Dust was written by 24-year-old composer Alice Chance.

Due to unrelenting demand, Melbourne Theatre Company's production of Twelfth Night will now play until Wednesday 9 January with four extra performances added to its already extended season at Southbank Theatre.

This afternoon casting was announced for Muriel's Wedding The Musical in the upcoming Melbourne and Sydney seasons.  To coincide with the cast announcement new tickets will be released and go on sale in Sydney on Wednesday 21 November and in Melbourne on Thursday 22 November.  

Carmen Pavlovic, Global Creatures CEO has announced the actors playing the roles of one of the greatest stage and screen friendships of all time: Muriel and Rhonda in the upcoming Melbourne and Sydney seasons of Muriel's Wedding The Musical.

Today Melbourne Theatre Company announced the full cast and creative team for Simon Phillips' upcoming production of Twelfth Night as rehearsals began this morning at MTC HQ.

Last night at the Australian Writers' Guild's annual AWGIE Awards PJ Hogan was honoured with the Music Theatre Award and the 2018 David Williamson Prize for Muriel's Wedding the Musical.  These two major and prestigious AWGIE acknowledgements continue to add to the productions' unprecedented list of award wins which also includes 5 Helpmann Awards and 7 Sydney Theatre Awards.  

Muriel's Wedding The Musical will play a strictly limited season in Melbourne at Her Majesty's Theatre from March 2019 before returning to Sydney in July 2019 playing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre.

The 2018 Helpmann Awards Act II tonight was a star-studded ceremony in front of a full house at the Capitol Theatre Sydney on the set of Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical. Hosts for this stellar evening were music writer Glenn A Baker AM, acclaimed choreographer Rafael Bonachela, celebrated musical theatre star and TV host David Campbell, multiple Helpmann Award winning mezzo soprano Jacqueline Dark, comedian Anne Edmonds and Olivier and Tony Award Nominee Tony Sheldon.

This year, for the very first time, 43 Helpmann Awards are being presented across two nights and two events in Sydney.
