Hannah Elless and More Set for NYMF Readings of New Musical FOR TONIGHT, 7/9 & 7/12

For Tonight, a new original musical, by creators Shenelle Williams, Spencer Williams and Whitney Rhodes is headed to New York City to participate in The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) as a developmental reading. For Tonight's story is inspired by the life of the writer's great-great-great-grandfather in the 1830's in Northern Wales/Liverpool. With its indie-rock inspired score and a completely original book, this story focuses on the universal themes of love, family and acceptance. The show will have three performances at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row in July 2014.

MOTHER DIVINE: The Musical will be produced by Western Playhouse, an equity company, and directed by Bob Willenbrink. Broadway and New York performer Randy Davis (Guys and Dolls, All Shook Up, Peter Pan and Harlem Song), and Betti O, a winner of Showtime's Amateur Night at the famed Apollo Theatre anchor the cast.

Rite of Summer will present free outdoor concerts on four different weekends on beautiful Governors Island from Memorial Day until just after Labor Day. Carnegie Hall today announced that soprano Jennifer Zetlan has agreed to step in for Kiera Duffy on Sunday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m., performing the U.S. premiere of composer Richard Ayres's No. 42 In the Alps with contemporary music group Alarm Will Sound at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Ms. Duffy is unable to appear due to illness.

From April 22 to April 29, David Lang, holder of Carnegie Hall's 2013-2014 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair, guides concertgoers through collected stories, a series in which six distinct themes are explored over six Zankel Hall performances, all at 6:00 p.m. and all curated by Mr. Lang. These multi-genre concerts-entitled hero, spirit, love/loss, travel, (post)folk, and memoir-showcase different modes of storytelling across a wide variety of music, from medieval Beowulf to conceptual John Cage, and include world premieres of new music by Lang, Kate Moore, and Kaki King, all commissioned by Carnegie Hall.

This November, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang begins his season-long Carnegie Hall residency as the 2013-2014 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair, leading a workshop for young composers and chamber musicians, capped by a concert titledNew Voices, New Music on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall. Mr. Lang's music is featured in concert on Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, when the lauded ensemble So Percussioncollaborates with electronic music duo Matmosand composer-guitarist Bryce Dessner of The National, performing music by Lang plus the world premiere of a Carnegie Hall commission for So by Dessner. Back by popular demand, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will present its hit, Richard O'Brien's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, October 16 through November 2 at the Plaza Theatre. The production comes on the heels of Lyric's wildly successful run of summer shows. Bang On a Can All-Stars Release First New Album in Five Years

The Bang on a Can All-Stars have recorded their first studio album in five years, for release on Bang on a Can's Cantaloupe Music in 2012. The album, Big Beautiful Dark and Scary, is also the first to include the All-Stars' current line-up: Ashley Bathgate, cello; Robert Black, bass; Vicky Chow, piano; David Cossin, percussion; Mark Stewart, electric guitar; and Evan Ziporyn, clarinets. In celebration of its 25th birthday, Bang on a Can is giving a very special gift to the public. The complete, double album is available to download for free during the first 25 days of January (through January 25) from www.bangonacan25.org. In exchange, listeners need only share a memory, thought, or story of Bang on a Can from the last 25 years, to be displayed online. The result will be a scrapbook of memories not just from those closest to the organization, but from the many people worldwide that Bang on a Can has touched over the years.
