A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, is excited to present 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' as its final children's theater show for the year at the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater (George Theater). The popular story written by C.S. Lewis and dramatized by Joseph Robinette will run for matinee performances only through July 1.

Fans of comedian and actor Steve Martin will recognize his smart and ridiculous style in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, the first play he wrote for the stage. The story goes that Martin heard a joke that began "Picasso and Einstein walk into a bar…" and turned that concept into a joyous 90 minute romp.

LA Ballet returns the essential holiday tradition of THE NUTCRACKER ballet to hometown audiences during the month of December, including venues in Glendale, Hollywood, Westwood and Redondo Beach. This production is the perfect introduction to classic ballet for the whole family as there are many children of all ages in the cast, all students of Los Angeles Ballet School. And given the number of touring companies bringing productions to Los Angeles, it's nice to be able to support a hometown ballet company where many of the featured dancers were born in our area.

Los Angeles Ballet's eleventh season celebrates the masters and introduces LA to a new choreographer that is changing the dance landscape. The season opened with Modernists/Ballet Visionaries which features works of three icons of their time: August Bournonville, 1805-79, creator of the Danish Bournonville style of ballet, still vibrant today; George Balanchine, 1904-82, Master choreographer who transformed American dance and created modern American ballet; Aszure Barton, contemporary choreographer who is leading ballet into rich, new territory. The program includes Bournonville's Napoli Pas de Six and Tarantella, Balanchine's Stravinsky Violin Concerto and the Los Angeles Ballet Premiere of Barton's Untouched (2010).
Curio Theatre Company's THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN Opens 4/29

Curio Theatre Company concludes its 11th Season taking audiences to the remote Irish town of Inishmaan to experience Martin McDonagh's award-winning, The Cripple of Inishmaan. This TONY-Award nominated tragicomedy runs April 21-May 21. Opening night is Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. Curio Theatre Company's stage is at the Calvary Center for Culture and Community, 4740 Baltimore Avenue. Curio shows typically run on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 8 p.m. schedule. Tickets cost $15-$25 per person. Tickets and more information are available online at www.curiotheartre.org.
Academy Celebrates 10 Years with Concert & Zukerman Master Class

The Music Institute of Chicago celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Academy program, which has educated and prepared gifted pre-college musicians for professional training and music careers, with several public events in 2016. On Saturday, February 6, renowned violinist/violist/conductor Pinchas Zukerman gives a master class for Academy students, free and open to the public, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Principal Clarinetist Stephen Williamson performs chamber music with Academy students. Both events take place at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.
Theatre for a New Audience to Host Staged Reading of Bachman, Sokolow & Brown's IN REAL LIFE

Collaborators Trevor Bachman (The Nomad at The Flea Theater, Pyre Cantata at HERE Arts Center), Jonathan Sokolow (Bravo, Story Pirates), and Joshua Brown (Funny or Die, Night of the Living Beanie Babies) are at it again with an updated version of their new musical, IN REAL LIFE, presented this time at Theatre for a New Audience's Polonsky Shakespeare Center at 262 Ashland Pl on Tuesday, November 3rd. This is the second phase in the development of the piece, coming out of a successful reading at Tisch School of the Arts in late-May 2015. Producers, Zachary Infante (TFANA) and Sydney Blaxill (The Flea Theater), have organized a closed reading to present the new draft to designers and collaborators.

Curio Theatre Company has announced its 2015-2016 Season. The company's 11th Season includes new looks at modern classic works of theatre. The season will open with the Philadelphia Premiere of a one-woman staging of The Handmaid's Tale (October 15-November 14). It continues with The Bald Soprano (December 2-December 19). 2016 kicks off with the production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (February 4-March 5). The season concludes with Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan (April 21-May 21).

The Music Institute of Chicago, one of the nation's leading community schools, and its Academy Program, a top training center for advanced pre-conservatory students, dominated the prestigious 2015 Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition for Violin. After a rigorous audition process, the competition chose nine of the 21 international competitors from the Music Institute-an unprecedented number from one institution-with two placing at the top of the competition, which was presented by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Orchestra in late July in Oberlin, Ohio.
