Battery Dance has announced the creation of Battery Dance TV, launching on Friday, March 27, 2020 at https://batterydance.org/dancetv/ to provide free live dance classes and programming for the general public by Battery Dance and affiliated artists through a regularly scheduled program.

Battery Dance Festival's Tuesday and Wednesday night performances proved that choreography is only as wonderful as its music is rich. Led by Buglisi Dance Theatre, Ballet Nepantla, Vanaver Caravan, Ballet Boy Productions, and Battery Dance Company, this fact was never far from the concertgoers' minds as they swooned blissfully to fantastic dancing coupled with brilliant music.

Experimentation and zany movement were washed out by the paucity of interesting music during the second night of Battery Dance Festival.

It was fitting that Manipuri dance was chosen to commemorate India Independence Day, because during British colonial rule the dances were ridiculed as savage, immoral and outdated. Fortunately, thanks to India's independence, the help of activists, scholars and performers revitalizing ancient yet timeless traditions, and organizations like Battery Dance Festival, Manipuri dance can continue to thrive not only in India but on the world's stage. Lord Krishna must be pleased!

Joining the ranks of leaders in the fields of academia, foreign affairs, science, social work and arts, Jonathan Hollander, President and Artistic Director of Battery Dance, has been selected by German President Frank Walter Steinmeier to receive the Federal Cross of the Order of Merit, which German Consul General David Gill will bestow on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 6 p.m. in New York.

Marking the first co-production of original content since Chicken Soup for the Soul acquired a majority ownership stake in Ashton Kutcher's APlus.com last year, the two companies have come together to produce a powerful new documentary digital series called “The New Americans.”

Wilderness Films presents Moving Stories, a new documentary featuring members of Battery Dance directed by Rob Fruchtman and produced by Cornelia Ravenal, Mikael Sodersten and Wendy Sax. The film will be screened, with a discussion with the filmmakers and members of Battery Dance Company, on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 7pm at The Museum of Modern Art, 11 W. 53rd Street, NYC, as part of Doc Fortnight 2018: MoMA's International Festival of Nonfiction Film and Media. Mare Nostrum Elements, in collaboration with LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, is proud to announce the fifth annual Emerging Choreographer Series, a program that celebrates new dances ranging from modern dance to hip-hop, created by nine talented young choreographers, February 26 & 27 at 7:30 PM in The Little Theater at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, Long Island City.   

In celebration of the history and scope of Indian dance in America, From the Horse's Mouth will dedicate its next theater/dance performance event to this storied art form, including its early connections to Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Jack Cole, and the fascinating early Indian dancers in America Balasaraswati, Ragini Devi, Indrani, and many more. Live music will be included in this colorful tribute, curated by Rajika Puri, doyenne of Indian Dance in NYC.
