Tony Nominee Anne Jackson, Wife of Eli Wallach, Dies at 90

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Anne Jackson, who was nominated for a Tony in 1956 for MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and who enjoyed a long career with her husband, Eli Wallach, died Tuesday, April 12, in Manhattan. She was 90.

PICT Classic Theatre's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, by Frank McGuinness, opens just about 100 years after the historical WWI events that are authentically portrayed in the performance. Running September 4-20 at the Stephen Foster Memorial, the play, appropriate for ages 12+, leaves audiences with a better emotional understanding of events that changed the course of millions of lives and a sense of the surprising ways that WWI continues to shape the world today.

PICT Theatre's fifth production of the season is the Pittsburgh premiere of Martin McDonagh's hilarious whodunit A Skull in Connemara, one of a the Leenane trilogy of plays written by the contemporary Irish playwright. McDonagh's dark humor features the colloquial idioms of the west of Ireland, its rugged landscape, and its even more rugged people. McDonagh wrote one of PICT's most popular shows, The Lieutenant of Inishmore. His short film Six Shooter won an Academy Award in 2006, and he was nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for In Bruges, a feature-length film in which two hitmen hide in the Flemish city of Bruges after a problematic job.

As previously reported on BroadwayWorld, Ireland's Abbey Theatre will present Ibsen's JOHN GABRIEL BORKMAN from October 6 to November 20 in a production starring Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, and Lindsay Duncan. The Theatre's official website has now announced that the production will be brought to New York in January 2011. A New York venue has yet to be announced.
