Midtown Direct Rep (MDR), the company that brought New Jersey the award-winning Rated P for Parenthood and Listen to Your Mother: North Jersey, returns to the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) with Theatre in the Loft, a series of staged readings of new plays and musicals. Chisa Hutchinson's The Subject, directed by Jade King Carroll, premieres on Sunday, October 12 at 7 pm at SOPAC (One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079).

Rehearsals are currently underway for Lincoln Center Theater's production of of Sarah Ruhl's new play THE OLDEST BOY. The play, directed by Rebecca Taichman, will begin previews Thursday, October 9 and open on Monday, November 3 in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).
Netflix Renews HEMLOCK GROVE for Third & Final Season

The Netflix Original Series 'Hemlock Grove,' from Gaumont International Television, a riveting and eerie mystery from executive producer Eli Roth and based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, has been picked up for a third and final season. Showrunner Charles H. (Chic) Eglee will return for the ten-episode final season which is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2015.

Lincoln Center Theater has announced that Ernest Abuba, Joel de la Fuente, Tsering Dorjee, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Takemi Kitamura, James Saito, Jon Norman Schneider, and Nami Yamamoto will comprise the cast of its upcoming production of Sarah Ruhl's new play THE OLDEST BOY. A Contemporary Theatre announces the remainder of its 2014 Season with a plethora of Mainstage and Central Heating Lab shows. The Mainstage welcomes two major players from the national scene with a new work from Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Ayad Ahktar who has penned a riveting drama about the overlapping worlds of terrorism and the financial markets called The Invisible Hand. Akhtar's thriller is followed by Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike which throws classic Chekhov characters in a modern family blender.

The production will be May 10th at 5:00 PM show at The South Orange Performing Arts Center (One SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). Statewide open auditions were held in early March and 15 writers have been selected to join the movement of 'giving motherhood a microphone.' Following on the heels of MDR's successful development of Rated P (for parenthood), MDR's program, Theatre in the Loft, aims to do the same for other previously unseen material. MDR now presents monthly readings or workshops of new plays and musicals one Sunday night a month at 7 PM in the SOPAC loft. With a cash bar and post show discussions with the casts and creative teams, MDR fosters a fun and collaborative environment to nurture the development of top notch theatre right here at home.
