Sonoma County's Marquee Theater Journalists Association Announces 2019 MTJA Award Nominations

The San Francisco North Bay's Marquee Theater Journalists Association has released the list of nominees for its 4th Annual MTJA Awards. The Association recognized the exemplary work of Sonoma County theater artists with nominations in eighteen categories that were culled from the sixty-eight productions attended by MTJA members. Recipients will be announced at the 2019 MTJA Awards - A Celebration of Sonoma County Theater which will be held October 14th at 3 Disciples Brewing in downtown Santa Rosa.

The summer residencies provide essential time and space for artists to continue development of original solo works.  This year, 1812 Productions and the Advisory Board of the Jilline Ringle Solo Performance Program are pleased to award residencies to Brett Robinson, Jessica Johnson, TS Hawkins, and Gwendolyn Rice. The summer residencies will take place from Saturday, July 6th through Sunday, July 14th at 1812 Productions' rehearsal studio in South Philadelphia.

I had the pleasure to see the award-winning stage play 'Be A Lion', written by Rory D. Sheriff, inspired by the Broadway play, 'The Wiz' for the third time. Be A Lion is the fictitious account of what could have possibly happened in the land of Oz, AFTER the Wiz's sudden departure. It's an urbanized depiction of the modern day lives Dorothy, Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The Lion, who is on a quest to become the next 'RULER' of Oz, with his trusted side-kick Miles, The Mouse, and LaDawn, the lioness.
