Invisible Wall Productions and Sugary Rum Productions in association with Hayes Theatre Co today announced the Australian Premiere of the hit Off-Broadway musical, The View UpStairs. As part of the Mardi Gras Festival, this provocative new musical, written by Max Vernon, will be performed at Hayes Theatre Co from 9 February.

Tonight at Hayes Theatre Co in Sydney, the 2018 season of musicals and cabaret was announced at an event attended by the musical theatre industry and patrons. Going into its fifth year of programming this is the first time an entire year has been announced.

The View UpStairs - the provocative new musical written by Max Vernon, directed by Scott Ebersold and choreographed by Al Blackstone - celebrated its 100th performance on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 PM. To celebrate this landmark, the show harnessed the power of community to benefit Point Foundation, the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students of merit. For the 100th performance, The View UpStairs will donated 30% of proceeds from all full-priced ticket sales to Point Foundation.

The View UpStairs - the provocative new musical written by Max Vernon, directed by Scott Ebersold and choreographed by Al Blackstone - is thrilled to announce the Original Cast Album will be released by Broadway Records. Produced by Michael Croiter, the original cast recording is now available for pre-order at BroadwayRecords.com. The album will be released on August 11.

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat is presenting the first reading of the new musical, BHANGIN' IT, book by Rehana Lew Mirza and Mike Lew and music and lyrics by Sam Willmott, on May 1 in New York City for an invited industry audience. The reading includes actors Shoba Narayan (Natasha Pierre & The Great Comet), Tony Sheldon (Amelie), Dan Rosales (Spamilton), Angel Desai (Company), and Salena Qureshi.  The reading is directed by David Ruttura (School of Rock) and music directed by James Dobinson (The View UpStairs).

Engage with peers, cast and creative members of The View UpStairs, and the Coming Out team as we celebrate the LGBTQ community's vibrant and diverse voices.  

THE VIEW UPSTAIRS is a production of the Culture Project, which bills itself as 'New York's home for socially conscious theater.' Seen in that context, the play is not without value. Just don't expect nuance. And at one hour forty-five minutes and no intermission, it's a tough slog. Out of sixteen musical numbers, only a handful are musically compelling. And given the current political climate, it's worth reminding a younger generation what it was like just 40 years ago. Few in this crowd believed Trump would become '45,' or that basic human rights-from freedom of the press to gay marriage-would be in jeopardy. Moreover, before the Pulse Orlando shooting, the fire at the UpStairs Lounge was the deadliest hate crime against gays and lesbians in American history, yet remains unknown outside New Orleans except to activists or students of queer history. Though uneven and often heavy-handed, THE VIEW UPSTAIRS has some nice moments. Given the important subject matter, one just wishes it worked better as a piece of art.

Frenchie Davis (Rent, American Idol), Gideon Glick (Spider Man, Spring Awakening), Robin de Jesus (Two-time Tony nom. La Cage Aux Folles & In the Heights), Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town, Hands on a Hardbody) Ben Mayne (South Pacific tour), Doreen Montalvo (On Your Feet, In the Heights), MJ Rodriguez (Runaways, Rent), Tony Sheldon (Tony nom. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Jason Tam (If/Then, A Chorus Line), Clarke Thorell (The Front Page, Annie) and more are set to perform a concert version of Max Vernon's musical THE VIEW UPSTAIRS to raise money for the victims of the Pulse Orlando massacre. It will be directed by Scott Ebersold with Music Director James Dobinson.
