The Acting Company launched its national tour at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, on October 17, with a solid production of John Steinbeck's OF MICE AND MEN. This grim tale, which follows the fortunes of two, itinerant, California farm workers during the Great Depression, is a timely reminder of issues still painfully relevant in American society today. . .

Since its publication in 1937, John Steinbeck's novella Of Mice and Men has inspired artists-there have been multiple film treatments, a Carlisle Floyd opera, ballets and stage productions based upon the tragic tale of migrant workers George Milton and Lennie Small-and it is now given a superb production at Boiler Room Theatre featuring stunning performances from the entire cast of actors under the confident and focused direction of Travis Brazil, who makes his area directing debut with this electrifying rendition of the timeless tale.

There is a new theatre in town…Blank Canvas. Founder Patrick Ciamacco explains that this is a professional theatre which pays designers and actors for their services. He states that the organization's staff is "dedicated to providing a positive working environment and want to show loyalty and investment in actors."

New Village Arts's popular proudction of OF MICE AND MEN plays its final performance today at the New Village Arts Theatre (2787 State Street, Carlsbad Village).

New Village Arts announced three additional performances of its sold out hit, OF MICE AND MEN. The two men hope to one day settle down on their own piece of land, but their plans of living the American Dream prove difficult to achieve. Michael Patrick Thornton starred as John Merrick last season in Steppenwolf for Young Adults' production of The Elephant Man. As a director, Michael has helmed productions at The Gift Theatre Company, where he is co-founder and artistic director. He received a Joseph Jefferson Award for his performance in Gift's production of The Good Thief. The design team includes: Courtney O'Neill (sets), Branimira Ivanova (costumes), Charles Cooper (lights), Miles Polaski (original music and sound) and John Tovar (fight choreography). Kathleen Petroziello is the stage manager.
