Center Theatre Group launches Not a Moment, But a Movement, a series of events that amplify and center Black artists.

The Old Globe announced today it will present the eighth annual Powers New Voices Festival, four days of readings of new plays by some of the most exciting voices writing for the American theatre today. This year's event will be presented virtually for the first time, streaming online January 21–24, 2021 on the free virtual Hopin platform. The Festival is free to the public, but reservations are required.

The Old Globe announced today new holiday-specific online programming to add to our free ongoing online offerings. Our regular online programs will join in the holiday spirit with special season finale episodes featuring amazing guests and holiday cheer.

Shakespeare at Notre Dame and the Shakespeare in Prisons Network (in partnership with the Folger Institute) announce the 4th International Shakespeare in Prisons Conference (SiPC4), commencing Monday, November 9th, 2020.  Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic SiPC4 will convene virtually.

The Old Globe today announced a new initiative in which it has asked six visionary theatre artists this one question: What Is Theatre Now?

The leadership teams of San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP), The Old Globe and La Jolla Playhouse announced today a new partnership between the three theatres to co-sponsor San Diego REP's successful series, a?oeWe Are Listening,a?? a live online salon about Black artists' experiences in the theatre industry hosted and curated by San Diego REP's Development Coordinator Ahmed K. Dents.

Black artists face unique challenges in their careers on a daily basis. Every other Thursday, join San Diego REP's Development Coordinator and local radio personality Ahmed Dents as he has a conversation with influential Black artists about what they have faced and how the future must change.

The Old Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein today announced the appointment of Freedome Bradley-Ballentine as Associate Artistic Director. In addition to his expanded role in the Globe's Artistic Department, Bradley-Ballentine will continue overseeing the Globe's nationally recognized arts engagement programs.

The Old Globe's first coLAB PRIDE Celebration, in collaboration with Diversionary Theatre and San Diego Pride, will feature live-streamed performances of short plays by LGBTQ+ playwrights Shairi Engle, Jaime Estepa, Katherine Harroff, and Miki Vale, with additional material created by Teen-Versionary and the Stonewall Salona?"two of Diversionary's arts education programs serving teenagers and the older generation, under the direction of Diversionary's Director of Arts Education and Outreach and this event's co-producer, Skyler Sullivan.

The Old Globe, in collaboration with the George L. Stevens Seniors Resource Center, presents our fourth annual Juneteenth performance presentation as part of the Center's Juneteenth festival.

Not even these uncertain times could make the Old Globe miss the fifth annual Happy Birthday, Mr. Shakespeare!

The Old Globe believes that theatre matters, now more than ever, and is determined to continue to serve the public through theatre art. We consider it paramount that we continue to be a leader in programming for our community, and continue to support and maintain valued connections with those hungering for artistic content and continued personal growth. We are happy to announce additional free online programs, rescheduled dates for our valued summer Shakespeare classes, and a fundraising campaign, all part of The Old Globe's ongoing commitment to serve the public good by providing programs that make theatre matter to more people.

The Globe will transition its existing groundbreaking work in diverse arts engagement programs developed with Community Partner venues onto its online platforms.

Beginning today, San Diego's Old Globe theater will offer a series of free interactive programs online.

On November 7, 2019, the nonprofit organization Theatre Forward announced the launch of the Bank of America ACTivate Awards, a Theatre Forward program that awards grants to member theatres that help promote social good by building lasting relationships, one community at a time. The breakfast event, held at Bank of America Tower in Manhattan unveiled the next phase of Theatre Forward's community access grant program, made possible by Bank of America. With this substantial, multi-year partnership with exclusive corporate sponsor Bank of America, Theatre Forward will continue to support theatre programs that accelerate change in the areas of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and expand the audiences and communities engaged with theatre throughout the country. The first round of grants will be awarded in 2020, and the second round awarded in 2021, with each grant of $50,000 or more.

Hundreds of San Diego families will enjoy the family-friendly and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum and with other special needs, along with local San Diego support organizations. Globe spokespersons include Director of Arts Engagement Freedome Bradley-Ballentine and the Globe's autism advisor, UCSD professor Lisa Porter. They will be happy to discuss the Globe's efforts to once again share the magic of theatre with all of San Diego with sensory-friendly performances.

For the third consecutive year, The Old Globe will participate in the George L. Stevens Senior Center's annual Juneteenth Celebration by presenting an original work developed through The Old Globe's arts engagement program coLAB: The Ruby in Us, with book and music written by Karen Ann Daniels, Director of the Mobile Unit at New York's Public Theater. Music for the piece was composed by Brandon Cerquedo, and language for the performance was collaboratively evolved in a workshop setting at the Center with the senior community that hosts the annual celebration. Award-winning director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (Skeleton Crew at the Globe, Globe Classical Directing Fellow) returns to helm this wonderful program alongside lauded jazz musician, musical theatre favorite, and The Ruby in Us music director Leonard Patton.

The Old Globe invites concertgoers, friends, and music and dance lovers to the first-ever evening concert in the free AXIS performing arts series, Manila Disco Fever, on Thursday May 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Globe's Copley Plaza in Balboa Park. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.

The Old Globe continues to make theatre matter to more people by welcoming everybody to enjoy a season of free performances, arts, crafts, and workshops on the Globe's Copley Plaza in Balboa Park. Over 16,000 people attended our free AXIS events in 2018 that featured music, dance, original plays from the community, mariachi concerts, jazz for kids, and annual sonnet reading to celebrate the birthday of our resident playwright, William Shakespeare. The 2018 AXIS season also included our first-ever sensory-friendly AXIS event with music and workshops during Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! 

The Old Globe believes that theatre matters, and our mission every day is to make theatre matter to more people. We invite friends and families to celebrate the great Mexican tradition Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) with a weekend full of unique activities and artistic expression, as well as premiere performances of a community-generated theatre piece.
