Signature Theatre Announces Cast for Regional Premiere of THE FLICK

Signature Theatre has announced the cast of The Flick directed by Joe Calarco (Signature's Cake Off, Shakespeare's R&J). The Flick follows the story of three employees at a crumbling Massachusetts movie theatre and was called "the best argument anyone has yet made for the continued necessity, and profound uniqueness, of theater' by New York Magazine. Annie Baker's Pulitzer Prize-winning play will receive its DC area premiere in Signature Theatre's intimate ARK Theatre, March 1 - April 17.

If I were to describe Martyna Majok's IRONBOUND in but a few words, I would refer to it as follows: "a deceptively simple, thought-provoking, and elegant work of art." This world premiere is Round House Theatre's contribution to Washington, DC's unprecedented Women's Voices Theater Festival, and it's a decidedly unmissable one to be sure.

Fresh from numerous successful workshop performances in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Warsaw, Poland, My Report to the World: The Story of Jan Karski, is headed for enhanced development and public staged reading performances this July, in a workshop residency to be held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in downtown Manhattan. As part of this Residency, one performance will be held in D.C. on Monday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Lansburgh Theatre in D.C., co-sponsored by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and in partnership with Bisno Productions, and The Jan Karski Educational Foundation. When Sarah Ruhl was a student at Brown University, she embarked on a journey that would culminate in her sprawling epic, Passion Play, which was first performed at Arena Stage in 2005. Her three act tome tells the story of a group of actors performing the story of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each act is set in a different time frame, yet what happens off-stage, which vaguely mirrors the actions on stage, is the heart of the story.

Olney Theatre Center's GROUNDED Begins 2/25

Olney Theatre Center, a Mid-Atlantic destination for extraordinary theater performance and education, continues its 77th Anniversary season with George Brant's Grounded, directed by Derek Goldman, running February 25- March 22 in the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab. Grounded is a co-production with Baltimore's Everyman Theatre, where it was seen last October. Grounded is the story of an ace fighter pilot who becomes pregnant and gets reassigned to operating drones from a windowless trailer on an Air Force base in the desert outside Las Vegas. Hunting terrorists by day and coming home to her family at night, the boundaries between reality and the screen - between the desert where she lives and the desert where she fights - blur until the pressure becomes impossible to bear.

She finds herself instead flying remote-controlled drones half a world away while in a comfortable trailer just outside of Vegas.
