Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present its 6th annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, created to showcase and support the growing field of musical theatre creators from Chicago and beyond. The 2020 Festival features full productions of eight new musicals, plus two pay-what-you-can staged readings and a showcase of 10-minute musicals. The Festival will be performed simultaneously on two stages from February 3 – 23, 2020 at The Edge Theater: the Broadway (5451 N. Broadway) and the Off Broadway (1133 W. Catalpa Ave.) in Chicago Edgewater neighborhood. Each full production will receive at least five performances during the Festival. Tickets are currently available at www.cmtf.org. The press “Sneak Preview,” featuring a sampling of songs from the 2020 Festival, is Monday, February 3 at 8 pm.

Japan Society proudly presents The Unknown Dancer in the Neighborhood, as part of the Society's 2019-2020 Performing Arts Season and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival.  This contemporary dance theater piece is written and directed by one of Japan's most acclaimed rising young playwright-directors, Suguru Yamamoto, of the theater collective HANCHU-YUEI, and performed by dancer/choreographer Wataru Kitao.  

Full of joy, tracksuits and tutus, Because I Say So is a physical theater work from acclaimed Swedish theater company for young audiences Unga Klara. With derring-do, daring dance and a look at the world from the perspective of kids, this one of a kind production asks the question: What if kids had absolute agency? Because I Say So is part of the New Victory season at The Duke on 42nd Street in New 42nd Street Studios for a holiday engagement from December 12 - 22, 2019.

The full cast has been announced for DOUBLE VISION, a new sci-fi comedy musical at the 2020 Chicago Musical Theater Festival. With book, music, and lyrics by Olivia Popp, DOUBLE VISION includes direction by Zach Barr and music/vocal direction by Justin Cavazos.

AstonRep Theatre Company will present its 11th annual WRITER'S SERIES, an afternoon of staged readings of new works by local writers. This year's series will showcase two productions by Jasmine Sharma and Ellen Wiese on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 2 pm a?" 6 pm at The Edge Theater (Off Broadway stage), 1133 W. TOTE ensemble members Marco DiGeorge, Adam Minossora, and Elaitheia Quinn will star alongside a large ensemble cast in Eric Bogosian's 2007 adaptation of Talk Radio. Directed by Allan Whitehead, Talk Radio will run from November 16 through December 8, 2019 at Theater On The Edge.

Tango 21 Dance Theater (T21DT) announces the original musical a?oeSombras Tango Cabareta??, Nov. 8 through 17 at The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway. a?oeSombras Tango Cabareta??, created by co-founders Jorge Niedas and Liz Sung, gives a unique interpretation of the artform combining Argentine tango with original music and songs and contemporary dance.

Peak Performances presents Lena Herzog's Last Whispers, an immersive AV experience dedicated to vanishing languages, accompanied by panel discussions on select days, October 16-20 at the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University. Trained in linguistics and philosophy, Herzog, also as an acclaimed photographer, has taken an ongoing interest in indigenous languages, which are disappearing at an astonishing rate. By 2050, half of roughly 7,000 languages spoken around the world will fall silent. Herzog's a?oehaunting and singulara??
