Central Florida Community Arts announced today they will present Ragtime on Juneteenth Weekend, Saturday, June 18 - Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Dr. Phillips Center. Prior to opening night, several free educational programs sponsored by Florida Theatrical Association (FTA) will be offered to the public. 

Duluth Playhouse returns to live performances with the epic, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Ragtime at the NorShor Theatre, running March 18th through April 3rd.

The three productions will be Windfall (May 31–June 19), a new comedy by Scooter Pietsch, directed by Jason Alexander; Anna in the Tropics (June 28–July 24) the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Nilo Cruz, directed by Marcos Santana; and Ragtime (August 2–28), with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Terrence McNally, directed by Will Pomerantz.

Ragtime, the Tony Award-winning musical about life in these United States during the very early years of the 20th century, is a richly drawn and evocatively told rumination on the pursuit of the American dream seen from the perspective of a diverse, multi-ethnic cast of characters. Now onstage through Sunday at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s James K. Polk Theatre, in a glittering and sumptuous revival from Nashville Repertory Theatre, Ragtime proves an ambitious choice for the company’s return to live performance after more than 18 months of darkness due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Opening Thursday night, November 11 and continuing for five performances through Sunday, November 14, Ragtime – the musical by Stephen Flaherty (music), Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) and Terrance McNally (book) which, in turn, is based upon E.L. Doctorow’s 1975 novel of the same name – promises to be a grand undertaking, which hopefully will blow away the cobwebs and the dust that’s collected in the past year-and-a-half during which the theater was dark and the company strived to remain relevant and productive amidst all the challenges that ensued.

In Ragtime, set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together - that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician - united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future.

Historical themes have always been incorporated into stage shows, from classic Broadway musicals to contemporary productions. Contrary to what some may believe, not all historical-themed productions are old Broadway musicals. Several historical musicals have gone on to become classics, though this is not specifically a golden age musicals list.

Lyric Stage Reopens & Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary of Majestic Theatre The 28th season will kick off with a Best of Broadway concert this October.

The Link Theatre Company in collaboration with the Delta Symphony Orchestra will present a concert version of the acclaimed Broadway musical, Ragtime, written by the award-winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and Tony Award-winning playwright, Terrence McNally.

Great Barrington Public Theater adds Wet Ink live stage readings and outdoor storytellers to season, plus a special presentation of Mr. Fullerton at The Mount, with playwright talkback, on July 14. 

Stars in the House continues tonight (8pm ET) with a RAGTIME reunion with Peter Friedman, Mark Jacoby, Judy Kaye, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Steven Sutcliffe, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty joined by a special guest from the National Immigration Law Center.
