Following two years of renovations and restorations the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will re-open its doors on Friday, October 1, 2010, exactly fifty years to the date of the first opening night performance, October 1, 1960.

The countdown has begun for the grand reopening of Toronto's newly renovated Sony Centre For The Performing Arts! In celebration of the 50th Anniversary Season, the Sony Centre Box Office (1 Front Street East) will open Tuesday, September 7th at 10 a.m. and the first person to arrive at the box office on that day will receive a Sony Pocket Edition (PRS 300) Sony Reader.

Since its opening in 1959, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Guggenheim building has served as an inspiration for invention, challenging artists and architects to react to its eccentric, organic design. The central void of the rotunda has elicited many unique responses over the years, which have been manifested in both site-specific solo shows and memorable exhibition designs.
