TheatreZone closed their sold-out run of "George M!" with a surprise audience guest who's no stranger to George M. Cohan's trademark songs and signature performance style. George M. Cohan III, George M. Cohan's great-great nephew and Florida resident, came to enjoy "Over There," "Give My Regards to Broadway," and, of course, "You're a Grand Old Flag,' complimenting the theatre on their moving tribute to the theatre icon. National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, is supporting two plays that reflect on experiences of the Rwandan genocide through its Rolling World Premieres program. How to Use a Knife by Will Snider and Dogs of Rwanda by Sean Christopher Lewis each offer a look into the intersections of identity, truth-telling, and accountability through stories that ask what it means to be human in a world of deep and pervasive ethnic conflict.

Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company has announced its annual From Page to Stage Festival of Original Work. This year's theme was 'Love and Politics' and after receiving an impressive over 400 submissions in its open call for short plays this past summer, the company selected 7 ten minute plays to feature in this year's festival. The minimally staged festival will run one exclusive week during today, November 4th-9th and feature a company of twelve actors. The End Result is an exciting and entertaining week filled with diverse selections sure to entertain and bring these new writers into the spotlight!

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, proudly announces that the 2014 Smith Prize Commission, which carries an Award of $5,000, has been awarded to Chris Weikel for The Word from Kampala. Awarded annually to a proposal for a play that dramatizes the pressing issues of our times, The Smith Prize is funded by a gift from screenwriter, novelist and playwright Timothy Jay Smith and a number of other socially-conscious donors. The Word from Kampala was conceived in reaction to the recent act of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who signed into law a bill that makes acts of homosexuality punishable by life imprisonment.
