Music Theatre Wichita concludes its 2019 Season with In the Heights August 7-11, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical which introduced Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda to Broadway. With book written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, the high-energy story unfolds during a tumultuous three-day period which dramatically affects the residents of a close-knit Washington Heights neighborhood.

Last night, The Jimmy Awards held their 11th annual ceremony at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre. The top awards went to Ethan Kelso and Ekele Ukegbu, for Best Performance by an Actor, and Actress, respectively. Kelso took home the prize for his performance as Will Bloom in Big Fish at Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts in Logan, Utah, while Ukegbu won for her performances as the title role of Aida at Elmont Memorial Junior-Senior High School in New York City.

The company of King Kong is bringing the show's larger-than-life puppet to the stage eight times a week at the Broadway Theatre, including Jon Hoche, who voices the gorilla live each night for every roar, grunt, snort and growl. The starry all-female lineup is set for the next concert in the year-long Broadway Sings spinoff series, Broadway Sings: Unplugged. On May 20 at 7pm and 9:30pm, The Green Room 42 will present Rihanna: Unplugged, featuring original "unplugged" arrangements of the pop star's hits, orchestrated for an acoustic band.

Just last night, Manhattan Theatre Club presented its annual Spring Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street (110 East 42nd Street). This year's event honored Serino Coyne Founder and Chairman Nancy Coyne for being a tireless advocate for the arts and featured performances by the casts of many of the most acclaimed musicals on Broadway including Ain't Too Proud, Be More Chill, Beetlejuice, The Cher Show, Choir Boy, Hadestown, King Kong, Pretty Woman, and Tootsie.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the third time this season and confirmed the eligibility status of seven Broadway productions for the 2019 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2018-2019 season to decide the eligibility for the 73rd Annual Tony Awards.
