Music Theatre Wichita concludes its 2019 Season with In the Heights August 7-11, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical which introduced Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda to Broadway. With book written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, the high-energy story unfolds during a tumultuous three-day period which dramatically affects the residents of a close-knit Washington Heights neighborhood.

After bringing delight to countless audiences in the past year, five of Broadway's show-stopping musicals are taking their final bows in the coming weeks: The Prom, The Cher Show, Be More Chill, King Kong, and Pretty Woman. To celebrate each of these shows' amazing runs, we're giving you a look back at the productions, from opening night to their lasting impact, as well as a peek at what's to come for these shows after the final curtain. The award-winning new musical King Kong will play its final Broadway performance on August 18, 2019 following 324 performances and 29 previews at the Broadway Theatre.

Last night, The Jimmy Awards held their 11th annual ceremony at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre. The top awards went to Ethan Kelso and Ekele Ukegbu, for Best Performance by an Actor, and Actress, respectively. Kelso took home the prize for his performance as Will Bloom in Big Fish at Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts in Logan, Utah, while Ukegbu won for her performances as the title role of Aida at Elmont Memorial Junior-Senior High School in New York City.

The company of King Kong is bringing the show's larger-than-life puppet to the stage eight times a week at the Broadway Theatre, including Jon Hoche, who voices the gorilla live each night for every roar, grunt, snort and growl. Fox 5 recently sat down with Hoche to get a peek behind the scenes and to chat all about what it's like bringing this icon to life. Check out the full video!

The starry all-female lineup is set for the next concert in the year-long Broadway Sings spinoff series, Broadway Sings: Unplugged. On May 20 at 7pm and 9:30pm, The Green Room 42 will present Rihanna: Unplugged, featuring original "unplugged" arrangements of the pop star's hits, orchestrated for an acoustic band.

Just last night, Manhattan Theatre Club presented its annual Spring Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street (110 East 42nd Street). This year's event honored Serino Coyne Founder and Chairman Nancy Coyne for being a tireless advocate for the arts and featured performances by the casts of many of the most acclaimed musicals on Broadway including Ain't Too Proud, Be More Chill, Beetlejuice, The Cher Show, Choir Boy, Hadestown, King Kong, Pretty Woman, and Tootsie.

Hosted by Alex Brightman, the celebration included performances and appearances by 2019 Tony Award-nominated performers including: Caitlin Kinnunen (The Prom), Sarah Stiles (Tootsie), as well as performances from 2019 Tony Award-nominated musicals including: Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of the Temptations; Beetlejuice; Hadestown; Kiss Me, Kate; Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!; The Prom; and Tootsie.

STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, has announced the performers for the concert that will take place on Friday, May 10th at 1pm in Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets.

During yesterday's matinee performance of King Kong, a technical malfunction caused the show to stop abruptly, and ultimately be cancelled.

The 2019 Tony Award Nominations were announced this morning, and while a select, talented few will spend the day celebrating their achievements, there are many who fell just short of a nod.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee has been meeting all year to discuss the eligibility of the 2018-19 Broadway productions all leading up to Tuesdays big announcement... the Tony nominations.

The 73rd Annual Tony Award Nominations will be announced tomorrow, April 30, from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. A new block of tickets has been released for Broadway's King Kong. Now on sale through January 12, 2020, King Kong is playing at the Broadway Theatre where it opened on Thursday, November 8 (previews began October 5, 2018).

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the third time this season and confirmed the eligibility status of seven Broadway productions for the 2019 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2018-2019 season to decide the eligibility for the 73rd Annual Tony Awards.      

Just last night, April 8, Inside Broadway (Executive Director, Michael Presser) honored Tony Award-winning Broadway icon Chita Rivera, NBC News/The Today Show's Al Roker, and scenic designer Beowulf Boritt at the Broadway Beacon Awards Gala.
