Upon entering the space the audience is immediately surrounded by the dwellings of a castle. The beautiful set design by Tom Hansen lent itself well to this harkened tale of Christmas in England. Henry II, King of England and his ward Alais are seen talking about their love and the King donning a Blood Red Crown that has been exquisitely crafted to the finest detail. Soon we meet the three sons of King Henry, Richard Lionheart, John and Geoffrey. All three are bastards in the eyes of King Henry and all three feel their stake at the Crown is higher, and more deserving than the others. Whether written into the script or a Directors choice, the use of Christmas carols, both modern and Baroque was a nice touch and lent itself well to the story and made scene changes seamless. A nice touch from the set design was having the pieces of the King's table fly in from up above and added nicely to the set. The texture of having the candles on every inch of the set, gave the castle a warm feeling and made it also feel very elegant and regal.

Howls of laughter echoed down the halls of Orlando Shakes last weekend as the spooky satire, 'The Mystery of Irma Vep-A Penny Dreadful', opened just in time for the Halloween season. From the title alone, the expectations for a show filled to the brim with satire and comedy are fairly high. (If you're unaware of the anagram that lies within 'Irma Vep', I'll let you discover that through the spectacular fashion that it's revealed in thanks to one of the two men who command the stage throughout the entirety of the show.) But straying from any further potential spoilers, let's explore the finer elements that make this show sing-or perhaps, scream.

Vampire attacks, werewolf sightings, and the resurrection of an Egyptian princess make for an exciting start to married life for Lady Enid, Lord Edgar's second wife. Set in mystical Gothic England, audiences will die laughing at this melodramatic farce - a quick-change marathon in which two actors play all the roles.

The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2017-2018 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, August 27, to patrons and industry artists. The Hound of the Baskervilles, adapted by Steven Canny and John Nicholson, based on the story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, runs now through November 19 at Orlando Shakespeare Theater. The production officially opens tonight, October 13, and BroadwayWorld has photos of the cast in action below!
