Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces that the theatre has commissioned four accomplished playwrights, each for $10,000, to write brand new plays that share women's voices and address voting rights of the past, present, and future. These commissions are the first installments of FST's The Suffragist Project, a community-wide artistic celebration of the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote.

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) presents a new play workshop of Lia Romeo's The Forest, a touching new dark comedy about a mother and daughter who experience extreme change in their lives. Romeo will collaborate with FST's Artistic staff on furthering the work from October 22-26, culminating in a staged reading of the play on Friday, October 26 at 3 PM in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre. This event is presented as part of FST's expanding New Play Development program, and is free and open to the public, however, reservations are required. UNCHAINED MELODIES Opens FST's 2018-19 Cabaret Season

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) kicks off its 24th Winter Cabaret Season with Unchained Melodies, a celebration of male harmony groups beginning with doo-wop and continuing through the swingin' sounds of the 1950s and '60s. In addition to heartwarming musical numbers by such legendary groups as The Drifters and The Four Tops, this Florida Studio Theatre original production will explore how history shaped the music of the '50s and '60s and vice versa. Beginning October 3 in FST's Court Cabaret, this musical revue will feature such hits as "Blue Moon," "16 Candles," "Save the Last Dance," and "Working My Way Back to You."

Following a well-received Sarasota Festival of New Plays this past spring, Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces an addition to its New Play Development program. Three new works will be staged throughout the month of August featuring some of the latest work by George Brant, Barry Harman and Keith Herrmann, and Sandy Rustin. "Good comedies with exciting stories are hard to find and we have found three well-crafted tales from various eras, points of view, and comedic angles," shared FST Associate Artist Catherine Randazzo. Talkbacks will follow each reading, giving audiences the chance to engage with each piece more deeply, while also giving playwrights valuable feedback. These readings are free and open to the public, though reservations are required.

Florida Studio Theatre announces its 5th Summer Cabaret Season with three delightfully inventive music revues. Carole's Kings kicks off the season with laughter and smooth harmonies in a unique tribute to one of America's most beloved singer-songwriters, Carole King. Following right behind are The Swingaroos with an all-new show, Music of the Night, celebrating the past century of Broadway hits. Capping off the Cabaret season is Gilbert & Sullivan Unplugged, a stripped-down, funky salute to the 19th century composing duo.
