Amy B. Crowe Launches CHANGED BY A CATCH
by Christina Mancuso
- Feb 10, 2016
JJ doesn't like following the rules. He spilled red fruit juice on the white dogs, hid a chocolate bar in his father's briefcase, got gum in his sister's hair and let the UPS delivery man into the house. All of his mischief - and the thinking he does as a result - form the basis for this new children's book released by Dog Ear Publishing.
'Changed by a Catch' details the consequences for JJ's actions - he won't soon forget the wrinkled hands he got while bathing the dogs - and the lecture he gets for letting in the delivery man, who may be familiar but is still just a stranger. It's not until an accident during a baseball game that JJ's eyes are opened to what can happen when you don't follow the rules.
The book offers a lesson about obedience, a concept that helps children show respect and safety when they encounter authority figures such as teachers, coaches, principals, police officers and even - once they grow up - bosses. Crowe writes that she aims to provide lessons that everyone can relate to, whether they are a child, young adult or parent. Boldly outlined illustrations by Jordan Mathenia show each step of the action.
Since she won her first writing contest when she was 10 years old, author Amy B. Crowe has shared her writing in newspapers and alumni magazines. She combines writing and imagination to influence children and parents in their faith, with characters that speak directly to readers. She and her husband have two daughters and a son.
