The Office of Nightlife at the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment has announced the first-ever Office of Nightlife report. The 162-page report offers a record of the activities of the first three years of this new office, including its response to COVID-19, as well as almost two dozen recommendations for the future.

This summer, the celebrate the full reopening of New York City, a 'mega-concert' is being planned in Central Park. At a press conference this morning, Governor Cuomo announced that Broadway will be back in New York City with shows opening September 14. Tickets will go sale at 100% capacity on May 6.

Actors' Equity Association has released a statement in response to the announcement that New York State would be ending restrictions on capacities in businesses, including theatre, for vaccinated attendees beginning May 19.

Things are looking up! At a press conference this morning, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that capacity restrictions will be lifted starting May 19. This will apply to retail stores, museums, theaters, food services, gyms, amusement parks, salons, etc. 

Reopening announcements continue to pour in from around the world, and even in New York last week a timeline has started to be narrowed in on the return of shows both on Broadway and off. More and more municipalities have given clearer guidance on the easing of their restrictions - and the weather is even starting to turn to temperatures that support outdoor events.

'Today's remarks by the mayor give us further optimism that Broadway productions can resume this fall, beginning in September, and we look forward to providing more details about reopening in the coming weeks,' says the Broadway League.

Vaccine rollout continues across the country and the theatre industry is growing antsy for plans about Broadway's return. How will it work? Mayor Bill De Blasio was joined today  in Times Square by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who helped announce the launch of the Broadway vaccination site. 'I can't help but have a sense of empty chairs at empty tables. Those in the Broadway community we've lost over the past year... I'm thinking of Terrence McNally, the great Nick Cordero, who is my age and we lost to this terrible virus. And I'm thrilled to be here at the opening of a vaccination for Broadway workers.'

President Joe Biden is working to ensure all Americans eligibility for the COVID vaccine, and even earlier than initially planned. Biden has just announced that adult Americans in all states will be eligible for the vaccine starting April 19, 2021.

With off-Broadway performances resuming at some venues in New York, mid-May openings in the UK, and performances already underway in Australia and some parts of Asia, things are steadily returning to a sense of normal in the performing arts industry.
