RBC Foundation Named Lead Donor Of NYOC's Composer-in-Residence Program

RBC Foundation, will be the lead donor of the National Youth Orchestra ofCanada's (NYOC) Composer-in-Residence Program, which will now be referred to as the 'RBC Foundation Composer-in-Residence Program'. This support is part of RBC's Emerging Artists Project, which aims to fund programs that bridge the gap from academic excellence to professional careers in all aspects of the arts. This year, the NYOC celebrates its 50th anniversary. As part of each summer's tour, the NYOC appoints a composer-in-residence and commissions a work to be performed on the tour.
National Youth Orchestra of Canada Announces 2010 50th Anniversary Tour Dates

The National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYOC) will embark on the TD Music 50th Anniversary National Tour, with Maestro Jacques Lacombe on the podium. This three-week venture commences in late July following the NYOC's training session. The tour will also feature travel to the west coast for the first time in five years. It is also with great excitement the NYOC proudly announces world-renowned Canadian tenor Ben Heppner to perform at the NYOC's Stratford date on July 25th, as well as performing a Canadian work by Kati Agocs, Composer-in-Residence with the NYOC. Her commissioned work, Perpetual Summer, will receive its world premiere July 28 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Another Canadian composer, the late Jacques Hétu, composed Sur les rives du Saint-Maurice, a work dedicated to Maestro Lacombe and is featured on this tour.

Award-winning actor Matt Damon was the recipient of the 24th American Cinematheque Award at a gala held this past March at the Beverly Hilton. The presentation and celebration will be televised in the hour-long special, 'Hollywood Salutes Matt Damon: An American Cinematheque Tribute,' airing THURSDAY, MAY 27 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Ben Affleck will present his longtime friend and co-star, Matt Damon, with the 24th American Cinematheque Award at the Cinematheque's annual benefit gala on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel's International Ballroom in Beverly Hills. The award presentation concludes an evening of in-person tributes from Damon's colleagues, Casey Affleck, Don Cheadle, Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Kimmel, Greg Kinnear, Charlize Theron and Robin Williams. In addition, George Clooney and Ben Stiller will pay tribute by partaking in individual pre-taped comedy sketches, while President William Jefferson Clinton appears in and narrates a piece surrounding Damon's humanitarian efforts that will be played during the show. Added guests will be announced as they are confirmed.

This year, due to the planned seismic and electrical upgrades of the historic Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center facility in Seattle's Central District, Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center (LHPAC) will host its Seventh Annual African American Film Festival at a variety of new venues, The Cinerama will host the opening night screening.
