Review: HADESTOWN at Shea's Buffalo Theatre
by Michael Rabice
- Feb 22, 2023
Finding new ways to tell age old stories is as old as time. Greek and Roman mythology, passion plays and Shakespearean tales are often updated or transformed from play to musical to opera or even ballet. Most recently the Broadway stage has found a new re-telling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in the form of the TONY Award winning HADESTOWN and the tour is playing at Shea's Buffalo through this Sunday.

Review: HADESTOWN at The Overture
by Scott Rawson
- Jan 25, 2023
The dancing was well choreographed, although, many numbers were very similar, presumably noting the tedium of the underworld. The use of the rotating stage was well executed, and the overall energy was high. In the end, although disappointed by the book and lack of passion between the two main couples, I was glad to have seen it. id our critic think of HADES TOWN at The Overture?
Review: HADESTOWN at Kansas City Music Hall
by Alan Portner
- Jan 18, 2023
Blend two ancient Greek myths, add the climate change crisis, a screed on capitalism, fears surrounding immigration, sprinkle in delightful, original folk music, and stir. The unlikely result is the 2019 eight-time Tony-winning folk opus “Hadestown,” an exceptional piece of musical theater.

Review: It's Not Hell, It's HADESTOWN
by Chris Arneson
- Sep 7, 2022
What did our critic think of HADESTOWN? It's essentially the retelling of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. Narrated by Hermes--played by a terrifically charismatic Levi Kreiss, who infuses the role with bit of his Tony-winning performance of Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet...

BWW Review: HADESTOWN at Ahmanson Theatre
by Evan Henerson
- May 5, 2022
Read our critic's review. HADESTOWN, the too-hot musical by Anais Mitchell directed by Rachel Chavkin, is a scorcher. Masterfully sung, elegantly staged and with a sensibility so romantic it could physically knock you over, the national tour of the 2019 Tony Award-winning musical parks at the Ahmanson through the end of May.
