by Debbie Gilpin
- Mar 7, 2023
The trend for stage adaptations of already popular material shows no sign of relenting, as a musical version of everyone’s favourite autumn comfort watching comes to the West End. It transfers following a successful run at the Cheltenham Everyman last summer, and stars Haydn Gwynne and John Owen-Jones as judges Pam Lee and Phil Hollinghurst (although we know who they’re really supposed to be). Welcome to The Great British Bake Off Musical!
BWW Review: THE UPSTART CROW, Gielgud Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina
- Feb 17, 2020
Born out of the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death in 2016, Ben Elton's sit-com Upstart Crow went on to have three series and multiple Christmas specials. Whether that is achieved by laughing at some absurd meme your friend posted on Twitter, a mindless show you binge watch on Netflix, or a podcast with a comedian you love - frivolity can take many forms. This is true even in the theatre. Take Hartford Stage's latest production of the Olivier Award winning JEEVES & WOOSTER IN "PERFECT NONSENSE" by the Goodale Brothers based on the works of P.G. Wodehouse. This production provides a theatrical escape from whatever ails you and provides audiences with a hilarious romp told by three actors with a penchant for sight gags, impressions, and a whole lot of whimsy.

BWW Review: PRESENT LAUGHTER, Chichester Festival Theatre
by Fiona Scott
- Apr 27, 2018
Noel Coward's comic play Present Laughter is said to be his most autobiographical work, dealing with the complexities of a life of fame in the theatre world. It tells of the mischief and misery of actor Garry Essendine (an anagram of 'neediness', as the programme note points out), his household staff and close circle of friends and lovers.
