Theatre Uncovered to Present BARE: A Pop Opera

Theatre Uncovered returns with its third annual production, after producing Heathers The Musical in 2016 and Spring Awakening in 2017. BARE, by Jon Hartmere Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo, explores the relationships between a group of catholic high school students who are struggling to feel heard by church leaders and are desperate to hear the voice of God over their individual struggles. At the center of the story are Peter Simonds (played by Andrew Sabonis-Chafee) and Jason McConnell (played by Nicholas Carlin), two students who secretly are engaged in a on-and-off relationship. Both struggle to reconcile their love for eachother with their belief that being gay might be sinful.

With the help of celebrated guest artists,American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) raised $1.2 million at its 2018 Season Gala honoring Carey Perloff and her 25-year tenure as artistic director. Proceeds from the gala, held on Saturday, April 7 at San Francisco's Four Seasons Hotel, support A.C.T.'s professional training and education and community programs reaching more than 20,000 Bay Area-based recipients each year.

The Dramatists Guild Foundation (DGF) today announced that Tony Award-winning performers Ben Platt (DEAR EVAN HANSEN), Rachel Bay Jones (DEAR EVAN HANSEN) and Laura Benanti (GYPSY); Tony, Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken; multiple Grammy and Academy Award-winning songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez (FROZEN, COCO) and double E.G.O.T.-winning songwriter Robert Lopez (FROZEN, COCO, AVENUE Q, BOOK OF MORMON); along with acclaimed soprano Renee Fleming (currently appearing on Broadway in CAROUSEL), will take the stage at the Hudson Theatre to toast the life and work of one of American theatre's greatest living composers, Stephen Schwartz, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 7pm EST. The star-filled concert, sponsored in part by the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) and the Hudson Theatre, will showcase and shine a spotlight on Schwartz's beloved songs, stories, and legacy in celebration of his 70th Birthday.

First up, the landmark exhibition World War I and American Art opens on Friday, October 6, and as we hope you've heard, it features an impressive roster of heavyweights, including John Singer Sargent. Opening evening in our auditorium, Sargent's great-nephew Richard Ormond, CBE, will present a free lecture Mr. Sargent Goes to War. THE KING AND I takes audiences on an uplifting journey of the power of education as characters transform from instructor to students themselves, learning from one another in the process. In consultation with the Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute of Chicago, Bowling and Choreographer Tommy Rapley will explore ancient Siamese customs, dance and traditions, and bring them to life on stage.

Director Amber Jackson has assembled a brilliant cast, creating an anarchic and, yes, surreal atmosphere in which anything and everything can happen. Zachary Fernebok's performance of Dali is priceless, and Jos. B. Musumeci Jr.'s set is a perfect evocation of the surreal atmosphere of Obolensky's play.
