The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Tony winner Jessie Mueller will star in American Repertory Theater's world premiere of WAITRESS this fall. Mueller previously played 'Jenna' in a winter workshop of the musical. Mueller was on the red carpet for the opening night of THE VISIT last night, and while she was there she stopped to chat with BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge about the upcoming role, as well as the buzz surrounding a BEAUTIFUL movie. According to a recent post by the A.R.T. the show already has plans for Broadway! The theatre auctioned off tickets to the show's opening night on Broadway as a part of its 2015 gala, teasing: 'See it in Cambridge before it heads to NYC!' Casting has not yet been announced, but a recent NYC workshop was led by Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Bryce Pinkham, Christopher Fitzgerald, Barrett Wilbert Weed, and Eric Anderson.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, led by Artistic Director Diane Paulus, just announced the world premiere of Waitress. Opening theA.R.T.'s 2015-16 Season, this new musical will be directed by Diane Paulus and feature book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. The production will begin performances at the Loeb Drama Center on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Additional creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.

Tony winner Jessie Mueller who is currently lighting up the stage as Carole King in BEAUTIFUL has found her next role says the New York Times. The paper reports that the star will play the lead role in the upcoming musical of WAITRESS, based on the 2007 film of the same name. The show is expected to premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts during its 2015-16 season, followed by Broadway.
