Ric Mountjoy BIO

Ric is a Lighting Designer working mainly in theatre and opera, lighting shows in the West End, on tour in the UK and internationally, and site-specific commissions. His work has been seen at the Singapore International Arts Festival; at KidsFest in Hong Kong and Singapore; in Dubai, Bahrain and Doha, and most importantly in London and New York City. He worked for 10 years for English National Opera, including as Lead Console Programmer, and in the past for Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Ric's first interest was in Political Theatre – art with something to say, a message to make you re-examine your views or see an issue differently. Working at the Coliseum for 10 years has given Ric a strong interest in lighting for opera, and the unmatched scale of production the art form offers: the powerful visuals that can be created with a chorus of 40 people on stage, the might of their combined voice with the strength of the orchestra, and yet a quiet moment of emotion being equally possible.
