Murder mysteries aren't actor Nick Hendrix's 'go-to' genre. And yet this week he finds himself in rehearsals for a new play The Strange Death of John Doe, as well as the newest episodes of Midsomer Murders. As the current series comes to an end, Nick looks back on his time on the show so far, his idea for a spin off, and returning to Hampstead Theatre.

Hampstead Theatre presents the world premiere of Fiona Doyle's The Strange Death of John Doe, inspired by real events. This powerful and poignant new play is a Hampstead Theatre commission and a finalist for The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2018. It will be directed by Artistic Director Edward Hall and the cast includes Damola Adelaja, Charlotte Bradley, Benjamin Cawley, Callie Cooke, Maynard Eziashi, Nick Hendrix, Rhashan Stone and Abigail Thaw.

Mercury Classics/Universal Music Classics is set to release the cast album of The Light Princess on October 9.  Called 'magical' by the UK's Independent, the musical by Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson debuted at the National Theatre in London in the fall of 2013.

Hampstead Theatre has announced the casting for Tiger Country, which will be on the Main Stage 8 December 2014 to 17 January 2015. Indira Varma will star in the production, written and directed by Nina Raine.

Songwriter Tori Amos and playwright Samuel Adamson teamed up with director Marianne Elliot to bring a new musical to the stage. After five years, The Light Princess has come to the National Theatre. The musical opened last night, Oct 9, starring Rosalie Craig as Princess Athea. The Light Princess also stars Amy Booth-Steel as Piper, Nick Hendrix as Prince Digby, David Langham as Flowers, Hal Fowler as King Ignacio, Ben Thompson as Zephyrus, and Kane Oliver Parry as Llewelyn. The Light Princess was designed by Rae Smith, who also desgined War Horse.

Terence Rattigan's The Winslow Boy opened at The Old Vic last night 19 March 2013. Directed by Lindsay Posner, Rattigan's compelling play is based on the true story of a father's fight to clear his son's name when he is expelled from Naval College after being convicted of theft.First staged in 1946, The Winslow Boy portrays the battle between personal principles and conscience and an impenetrable establishment under the media.

Tim McInnerny, Samantha Bond and Georgia Moffett will be joining Omid Djalili in Joe Orton's great British comedy WHAT THE BUTLER SAW, which will open at the Vaudeville Theatre on Wednesday 16 May, following previews from Friday 4 May, for a strictly limited season, ending on Saturday 25 August.
