WomensWork's Season Of Madness Continues With THE MADWOMAN IN THE VOLVO

WomensWork Theatre Collaborative continues its Season of Madness with a limited run regional premiere of a?oeThe Madwoman in the Volvoa?? by Sandra Tsing Loh, based on her acclaimed memoir of the same title. Not choosing to go quietly into her sixth decade, Sandra and friends set a destination for Burning Man, an annual event of half-nude artistic stoners, where she creates a spectacular midlife blow up. It's a candid, hilarious and enlightening take on one woman's journey as she navigates her way through her middle-age maelstrom.

BWW Review: Captivating QUEEN MARGARET at Head Trick Theatre

Head Trick Theatre opens their 2019-2020 season, "In War With Time," with Jennifer Dick's small cast adaptation of the play QUEEN MARGARET, which takes a closer look at Margaret of Anjou. A character in several of Shakespeare's "history plays," she is finally given her time in the spotlight, with a fuller look at her role in the 15th century War of the Roses. The audience is left to decide whether she is a hero or a villain.

BWW Review: Epic Theatre Company's THE REVOLUTIONISTS

Comedic and thought-provoking are both accurate terms for Epic Theatre Company's Rhode Island premiere of Lauren Gunderson's 2018 play, THE REVOLUTIONISTS.

WomensWork Theatre Collaborative Comes To Cranston

Juliet was traditionally played by a boy. A man played Medea. For centuries, women have been consigned to play lesser parts in the creation and production of theater. And even as progress is being made, gender and age parity, onstage and off, continues to be a major issue in the theater.

Epic Kicks Off Summer With CONSTELLATIONS

Epic Theatre Company is celebrating the summer with the first of two shows that look at life and love from every angle of the imagination.  The first is the Rhode Island Premiere of Nick Payne's "Constellations," which examines the ways we meet, connect, disconnect, break apart, and get back together again.  It's the laws of love meets the laws of the Universe in this beautiful two-person play that's the perfect evening of summer theater.

BWW Review: Willy Russell's SHIRLEY VALENTINE Comes to 2nd Story Theatre

Willy Russell's SHIRLEY VALENTINE is running right now at 2nd Story Theatre in Warren, and I advise you to call them at once to purchase a ticket and them come back and finish reading my review.  This is the second trip to Russell-Land for director Mark Peckham and 2nd Story; last year they scored with EDUCATING RITA.  I think they're on to something.  This time Russell has created the circumstance of a housewife, who, feeling shortchanged by life, has the chance to travel to Greece and see what more there might be.

In Willy Russel's captivating one-woman tour de force, an unfulfilled housewife fixes dinner while ruminating on her husband, her children, her life and, most importantly, her upcoming unannounced Greek holiday-a trip that leads to a life-changing romantic tryst and a mid-life fork in the road.

BWW Review: Deliciously Naughty THE BEDROOM PLAYS

The first offering in Epic Theatre Company's Summer of Sex is a hilarious, unexpectedly touching and no holds barred original production called THE BEDROOM PLAYS.  This series of ten short works gets increasingly racy with each offering, and the members of the audience have the option to tag themselves out in between each, if they feel like they can't handle the next one.  Those that make it all the way through proudly get to share the social media hashtag #10for10.  While some plays in this collection are stronger than others, as a whole it deserves praise for taking chances, equal opportunity nudity and an incredibly brave and talented cast who make every joke shine.

Epic Theatre to Open Summer Season with THE BEDROOM PLAYS

?Epic Theatre is celebrating sunny days and summer nights with the wildest show it's ever put on-Twenty-eight actors, ten directors, and one playwright are coming together to bring you the biggest theatrical event of the summer.

BWW Review: LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE at 2nd Story

You are almost out of time to go see LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE by Delia and Nora Ephron, currently running Downstage at 2nd Story Theatre in Warren. Part of this is 2nd Story's fault, as the show had a limited run to begin with; and partly this is my fault because my computer monitor quit and delayed you faithful correspondent in the swift completion of his appointed rounds. Sigh. Still, you have another weekend.

2nd Story Theatre's LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE Begins Tonight

LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE, a collection of monologues and memories written by sisters Nora and Delia Ephron, based on a book by Ilene Beckerman, will be presented DownStage at 2nd Story for a limited 12-performance run from tonight, February 18 through March 6, 2016.

BWW Reviews: 2nd Story's HAY FEVER Frothy Summer Farce

HAY FEVER is the latest summertime offering to play 2nd Story Theatre's UpStage space. It is, by far, the lightest and most comedic production on the company's bill, featuring over-the-top characters and nearly nonstop antics. Though HAY FEVER has some truly laugh-out-loud moments, there are some missteps in 2nd Story's production.
