The Hope Theatre is set to close in its current form. The board of the theatre, located in Islington, have resigned their roles after being unable to reach an agreement with the pub in which the theatre is located.

London’s West End is to get a new fringe theatre right in the heart of Covent Garden. The opening production will be the transfer of LAMBCO Production’s award-winning, critically acclaimed production of Tommy Murphy’s Australian drama, ‘Strangers in Between’, directed by Adam Spreadbury-Maher, from south London’s Golden Goose Theatre.

The King’s Head Theatre charity has announced they will be closing their home of 53 years on 13 August 2023, and moving into a custom-built new theatre immediately behind the existing venue in Islington Square, with an opening date and programme to be announced.

Australian diving star Matthew Mitcham, the first openly gay athlete to win an Olympic Gold Medal, will make his UK acting debut in 'Strangers in Between'.

‘Strangers in Between’, a captivating Australian classic from Tommy Murphy , the acclaimed playwright of ‘Holding the Man’ is an unflinching look at the highs and lows of growing up gay in modern Australia, bursting with laugh-out-loud one liners, simmering sexual tension and heartfelt confessions.

Adapted by Harry Gibson and directed by King's Head Theatre Artistic Director Adam Spreadbury-Maher, in collaboration with Greg Esplin and Ben Anderson, Trainspotting Live is set to embark on a UK tour. Produced by Brass Jar Productions (Drunk Shakespeare) and Olivier Award-winning producer James Seabright, Trainspotting Live first officially opened on July 15, 2018.

King's Head Theatre has released the following statement regarding upcoming plans amid the health crisis: 

King's Head Theatre presents Puccini double-bill OPERA UNDONE: TOSCA & LA BOHEME which began previews at Trafalgar Studios 2 on 5 February and runs until 7 March with a press night on Tuesday 11 February.

In yet another attempt to democratise opera, Opera Undone, the new strand of Islington's King's Head Theatre's celebrated opera offering, brings two radical interpretations of Puccini's Tosca and La bohème to the Trafalgar Studios. These are the first productions to debut in the West End.

Opera Undone: Tosca & La bohème will run at Trafalgar Studios 2 from 5 February to 7 March 2020. Adam Spreadbury-Maher, Artistic Director of the King's Head Theatre, will also direct the production, with musical direction from David Eaton. Opera Undone: Tosca & La bohème will have a national press night on Tuesday 11 February 2020.

Peter Bull is today announced as the 13th Artistic Associate of the King's Head Theatre, and will be staging several shows at the theatre in 2020, the first of which will be the Off-Broadway musical hit, Naked Boys Singing! in March 2020, with further projects to be announced in the coming weeks and months.

The King's Head Theatre continues its track record of moving shows from Islington to the West End, with the arrival of Kevin Elyot's drama of 80s polyamory. In this two act play the ethics of a modern relationship are questioned. There are conflicts in morality and human decency, providing no clear answer as to what is right.

Get a first look at the cast of the King's Head Theatre's revival of Kevin Elyot's Coming Clean in rehearsals. The show begins previews at Trafalgar Studios 2 on 8 January and is running until 1 February with a press night on 10 January 2020.
