Talented Kids And Teens Invited to To Enroll In NEXT STOP BROADWAY: The Academy The Coral Springs Center for the Arts is offering a fun, theatrical-based learning experience for children and teens culminating in two major musical productions.

Next Stop Broadway: The Academy is the premier training center for young performers in South Florida. Established in 2002, it offers students ages 5 to 19 the opportunity to learn and experience show business first hand. Studying during the school year is designed so students can thrive in their training, become more involved, and receive individual attention.

Now headquartered at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts at 2855 Coral Springs Drive (33065), Next Stop Broadway: The Academy is offering training in three key areas: Ensemble, Dance and Production.

Ensemble Classes

These after-school programs allow students to train with professionals and build self-esteem and confidence. Classes culminate with an end-of-season recital on May 21 at 6 pm.

* Creative Performance for Grades K-2

Thursdays, 4 to 5 pm

Utilizing theatre games, body expression, dance and singing techniques, each class includes study in dance, music and drama, where each child's skill level is determined and further developed.

* Singing FUNdamentals for Grades 3-5

Wednesdays, 4 to 5 pm

Participants learn more about the voice as an instrument as thy study vocal techniques, breathing, placement, harmonizing, sight-reading and more.

* Acting FUNdamentals for Grades 3-5

Wednesdays, 5 to 6 pm

Innovative exercises include theatre games, improv, monologue work and character studies.

* Performance Collective for Grades 6-8

Wednesdays, 6 to 7 pm

Students work with instructors to create effective and meaningful song and dance vignettes.

* Advanced Acting for Grades 6-8

Wednesdays, 7 to 8 pm

This class focuses on acting theory as students work on monologues and duet scenes.

Dance Classes

In The Academy's new dance classes, participants will learn skills and techniques while training their bodies and practices movement. Classes culminate with an end-of-season recital on May 21 at 6 pm.

* Hip Hop I for Grades 2-5

Mondays, 4 to 5 pm

Offering a structured method of learning Hip Hop techniques while promoting style and expression, with new choreography every week.

* Hip Hop II for Grades 6+

Mondays, 5 to 6 pm

This fast-paced class allows students to develop skills through unique choreography and performance opportunities.

* Competitive Hip Hop (by invitation only)

Tuesdays, 7:30 to 8:30 pm

This new competitive Hip Hop team will compete in high-level dance competitions.

* Musical Theatre Dance - Ballet/Jazz/Tap for Grades 7+

Thursdays, 7:30 to 9 pm

The wide range of dance styles covered allows students to connect technique with terminology. Suitable dance wear and shoes are necessary.

Production Ensemble Classes

Casting for two big musical productions begin in November, with the shows being used as a vehicle to teach techniques that are more intriguing and challenging. The final productions are full-scale Broadway-style shows:

* THE DROWSY CHAPERONE for Grades 8-12

Mondays, 6 to 9 pm

Workshops with visiting professionals on multiple performance techniques: characters and their connections to emotions, needs and relationships; plus extensive vocal and dance training. The final production is an hilarious spoof on old musicals with a loving send-off to the Jazz Music Age, featuring one show-stopping tune after another. The performance dates are May 3-4, 2019.

* ALIVE IN WONDERLAND for Grades 4-7

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Techniques are a combination of traditional an innovative theatre, with emphasis on character development, vocal training and dance techniques. Featuring great Disney songs and more, this is a new and fast-paced re-telling of the children's classic. The performance date is May 15, 2019.
