Maplewood Playhouse Closes Second Season With AGNES OF GOD

Maplewood Playhouse rounds out their second season with the thought provoking drama, Agnes of God by John Pielmeier, opening April 26th at Improv U. Featuring an all female cast of local talent, this is a show not to be missed.

Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing Livingstone's suspicions. With Agnes claiming a virgin conception and having no memory of giving birth, Livingstone's questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love - leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.

The cast is comprised of Alex Lohman of Boynton Beach playing Dr. Livingstone, Helen Buttery of Lake Worth playing Mother Superior and Sarah Hardwick of Lake Worth as Sister Agnes.

Sarah Hardwick, who takes on the role of Agnes, has enjoyed being a part of a play focused around three women. "I like the show because it's all about women. Women drive the plot - and these women are real people with flaws, complexities, hopes, dreams - not just tropes or sidekicks, wives or femme fatales. These women are a story, the story, in and of themselves." Adds Alex Lohman, who plays Dr. Livingstone, "This production asks the audience to take a journey to believe, one way or the other; nothing is predetermined. It's complicated - the plot, the characters, the ideas. The three women at the center of this production struggle to believe one way or the other, are complicated themselves, and drive the story forward. It's thought provoking and poignant, and I'm incredibly grateful to be part of the cast that gets to tell this story."

All performances will take place at Improv U, located at 105 NW 5th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33445.
